      Hello,

This is Jeffrey Gray, aka TServo2049; I set up this account a while back because I was unable to log into my old account for some reason, and couldn’t get the password reset email for reasons I also forget. If I can ever get logged back into TServo2049 I’ll go back to using that name.

Anyway, I’d like to ask, which UK station(s) can any of you recall who used the jingles demoed as “Classic Hits” for KIXK?

I know I’ve heard them before, sung for at least one ILR station. I specifically remember hearing the “Play me the music that never stops” cut for a UK station. I had been thinking maybe it was BRMB, but if so, I can’t find those sings anywhere.

Can any Brits here help me out?

BRMB had a number of custom packages through the 80s. You are probably thinking of BFBS.

I think I’ve only heard Downtown Radio versions of these.

I found a couple BFBS resings on YouTube, though interestingly they had UK singers.

I don’t know if I ever heard the Downtown versions. I know I’ve heard these cuts somewhere outside of the Intercept and Classic Hits demos, and I was certain it was for a UK station. I just can’t remember which one, and I can’t find any montage online with them.

If anybody has resings of these, could they possibly upload samples and link them here? I’d appreciate help trying to jog my memory where I heard these…

Ooh, that might be it! “1026, Downtown Radio, all the hits are here” definitely seems very familiar. I feel certain I’ve heard that cut with those lyrics before.

That said, my brain also still mentally hears the Dallas group on that cut. My memory keeps hearing “Stereo, (something) Radio, (something something)” – maybe some of these cuts were in one of the Northsound assortments? Maybe I heard it on that Northsound montage that was on David Hemsley’s Jingle Ark website (RIP)?

Still curious why the Downtown and BFBS resings have UK vocals (I’d assume by Standard Sound/Muff Murfin?). Was this still during the IBA/Musicians’ Union ban? I thought the music tracks sounded identical to the demo, but now I’m not sure. These could just be full-on UK re-recordings.
