Hi, I was wandering if anyone knows when exactly did Radio 1 stop using the ‘Ultimate One’ jingle package introduced in 1994, I believe the package was discontinued at the same time the station stopped using the 1FM name. Also when the station went back to being radio 1 at this point, what jingles did they use. I know they introduced a package of quirky spoken idents in 1996 but I’m sure the 1FM brand was dropped before this, so what bridged the gap?

I think it was in April 1995 that the jingles were dropped coinciding with the launch of the Chris Evans breakfast show.

Hmm… I remember Chris slagging off a really short jingle on his breakfast show once.

Basically he was saying who’d pay hundreds of pounds for something that short.

Dunno what jingle it was though – think it sang Radio 1 but can’t be sure.

Of course now they pay hundreds (or a lot lot more) for someone to whisper radio 1 😆

Anyone heard the new ‘Radio 1 FM, DAB and world wide web’ sweeper? always makes me think of the 1FM era

I remember the alfull WDTM voice linners that Radio One used when they dropped the Jam jingles it must have cost them a fortune the demo lasted over 10 mins ! 😡
