Don’t know if Jon will see this post, but here goes…

Unfortunately, I don’t get the time/opportunity to play even the edited-down weekly versions of Jon’s programme.

But stuck indoors awaiting a delivery on a rainy day here, I put on the (re-issued) audio above – and TWO particular items
on Jon’s “frequency sweep” jingle plays stood out for me personally as a long-time jingle collector!

1) WSPD – the Music Creations “Voice of the City” package
2) WTOB – “all the PAMS packages” and Drake/Mann series 1.

A very long time ago, (and in then-unknown parallel to Jon himself), circa 1970, as a newbie collector I started
writing off to radio stations mooching dubs of their jingles (… a long story…).

The THIRD tape I ever received, was from CKFM 99.9 Toronto, the FM service of 1010 CFRB.
A “Voice of the City” package.
In all these years, I never knew who made them.

Judging by Jon’s feature of the Music Creations material for WSPD, and the similarity of the vocals/productions,
that 50-years-plus “mystery” is now possibly solved!
Would be nice if this could be confirmed? Or its a different package from the same producer?
Anyone with a far better quality version of the CKFM?
My original was 3.34 IPS stereo but only “one side” dubbed (no fancy stereo reel equipment for collectors back then!)

The 14th tape I had from a station, in 1971, was from Glen Powers then PD at WTOB 1380 Winston-Salem.
Initially, there was a “message tape” jointly to me and another UK collector, explaining that WTOB
“had used virtually every PAMS (Top 40) package” until then, and had changed to the Johnny Mann (Drake) package.

At that time, like many UK collectors then, our “heritage” from offshore radio was Series 18, 27,29, 31.
And he was able to send me those for WTOB, along with the Drake, plus Series 33 for sister station WSGN 610 Birmingham AL
– Note – Jon played Series 33 WTOB – not sure why I got WSGN, but, heck, their version was excellent!

So no doubt I’ve missed out on much more of jingles on the “frequency sweep” features that would have been
from stations I’ve had tapes from over those years of the “tape hiss days“.
But if anyone should ever compile an Index of Jon’s shows with a note of what stations’ jingles featured in any
way on them, I’ll be happy to retrospectively download ones with a bit of a story about those station version!

PS – the only other Music Creations package I’m aware of is one I had from KGMB 590 Honolulu circa 1972
which is an older “big band” style package “souped up” by the addition of moog “highlights” into the music tracks.
