Seeing as it is County Sound’s 20th Birthday this year.. I was trying to compile a list of County Sound jingles a while back… Perhaps someone can help me on this…

County Sound 1983 – Les Reed / Swingle Singers
County Sound 1 1984 – Alfasound – Based on the Les Reed theme
      County Sound 1 1985 – Alfasound – 96.4 Versions
      County Sound 2 1986 – Alfasound – US Sing
County Sound 2 ???? – The Premier Service sings of above
County Sound 3 1988 – The Premier Service / Gold AM – Alfasound
County Sound 4 August 1989 – JAM “The Only One”
County Sound – September 1995 – JAM (This was just the CS sings of CS4)
County Sound 1476 1996 – JAM – resing of CS4 plus some “nothing but class” cuts
County Sound 1566 2001 – JAM – resing of Century Network Package

      96.4 The Eagle – 1996 – JAM (Produced May 1995 – Some jock cuts produced Nov 1995)
      96.4 The Eagle – 2000 – JAM Resing of Z+
      96.4 The Eagle – 2001 – Today’s Radio (Unaired – Steve England / JAM)

The Eagle also had a number of top ups including some Peter Gordon Cuts / Those 1FM travel beds / Thorpe Park Weather / The odd Steve England / Northsound 1 cut resung to freshen up the original package.

Perhaps someone can add to the above list…

I have missed out the Gold PAMs packages and perhaps someone will know how many of those there were. I have the “PAMS in the UK” tape with demos for these packages. It lists “County Sound GOLD” as 1988 and “First Gold Radio” as 1990 (Now known to have been delivered to the station January 1990). Were these the same cuts to air in 1995 when County Sound GOLD came back as the overnight service.

A couple more things – County Sound and 210 combined services overnight in the mid 80’s. What jingles did they use then?

And finally, When County Sound Gold and Premier (and Delta) combined services overnight from 1989 they had the Premier JAM package sung just as “With Your Friends” County Sound Radio. These cuts were used when County Sound returned in 1995.

Incidentally – I understand a lot of the CS archive was binned when Mercury took over…

Ha – I knew I’d forget something. When Mercury and County merged to form Allied Radio, County Sound became the name of the AM service for Crawley and Guildford.

So – for one year prior to becoming Mercury Extra, a TM Century package was used.

Alas, this is one of the packages I don’t have and has proved elusive so far.

          Mentioning the above…..
Has anybody got that original County Sound Package (1983 by Les Reed/Swingle Singers)
That they can post on here??
I have some “Off-Air” cuts but thats all 😥

          Regards,

          Pete.

That ’83 package is a bit elusive. As you know I have been after it for a few years!

Finally after a lot of work, I’ve got a lead on it. Fingers crossed..

I have a feeling it wasn’t just the swingle singers as the vocalists on this package and it may have been resung prior to the Alfasound package. Anybody know anything about this or – as usual – have I dreamt it?

              Edit of the above.

County Sound 1 was dated 05/05/1984 which means that the original Les Reed package was on air little over a year.

Having just listened to some air checks from County Sound recorded in 83, there is definately a difference in the singers on launch day (I have quite a lot of stuff recorded from day 1) to the ones that were aired shortly before the first Alfasound package came in a year later, so I dont think you were dreaming it!

I seem to have “lost” my recording of the full theme which was aired during the first moments of the station opening (wasnt Frank Muir the first voice on air?) which is a real shame!
