Ha – I knew I’d forget something. When Mercury and County merged to form Allied Radio, County Sound became the name of the AM service for Crawley and Guildford.
So – for one year prior to becoming Mercury Extra, a TM Century package was used.
Alas, this is one of the packages I don’t have and has proved elusive so far.

Has anybody got that original County Sound Package (1983 by Les Reed/Swingle Singers)
That they can post on here??
I have some “Off-Air” cuts but thats all 😥Regards,
Pete.

That ’83 package is a bit elusive. As you know I have been after it for a few years!
Finally after a lot of work, I’ve got a lead on it. Fingers crossed..
I have a feeling it wasn’t just the swingle singers as the vocalists on this package and it may have been resung prior to the Alfasound package. Anybody know anything about this or – as usual – have I dreamt it?

Edit of the above.
County Sound 1 was dated 05/05/1984 which means that the original Les Reed package was on air little over a year.

Having just listened to some air checks from County Sound recorded in 83, there is definately a difference in the singers on launch day (I have quite a lot of stuff recorded from day 1) to the ones that were aired shortly before the first Alfasound package came in a year later, so I dont think you were dreaming it!
I seem to have “lost” my recording of the full theme which was aired during the first moments of the station opening (wasnt Frank Muir the first voice on air?) which is a real shame!
