Great stuff from Jonno and The Prof…

“I think it was maybe 2-3 years ago some of us posted news stuff montages?”

To my embarrassment, I’ve found my previous two contributions were actually compiled in 2008 !
      SEVEN years… Tempus fugits…

If in doubt, insert holding pattern until an entirely new selection can be compiled…here’s a merged version of the 2 original ones…

Oh and a few more news some good, some not so but topped off with the awesome 1987 Radio aire first for news jingles – short, fast, punchy, great biddleybiddley beeps

Thanks for all the suggestions and audio!

Although I was in ILR (r.i.p.) from 1974 to 1994 I never heard half of the UK ones first time around!

Okay – here’s the ‘news’ :after 3 years of using the BEST News jingle ever recorded, (from Top News from JAM) how do you follow it?

Well – search dozens of JAM package for great News jingle. And we found it!!

But it needed a little plastic, err digital surgery – it had no vocal – so we had to find a place to put that + well what else is DIFFERENT (?) and who can spot whose it WAS before Jon kindly semi-customised it for us

              :-)

It’s hard to follow the best news jingle ever – but we love it – hope you do too!

Ok – I’ve failed – I haven’t a clue which package, even with the hint of the Double-You (rest) F-I-L (or even W, MAQ) logo :^(
…but the bed has a “flavour” of a certain Radio 1 bed circa 1990…

…so that might put a time-line on it at least…

Spot-on Jonno – I’ve just had to play my (only, and MP3) copy of the demo – and the cut is at the front & end of the demo.

AND I should have twigged it – the logo is as on the (cut 12?) “Night-Time Heart & Soul, Ocean (or Southern…) FM” from when YOUR “local stations” had their damn good JAM “country packages re-sung for MOR” composite (1992 ? 93 ?) !

Len – you must have dug VERY deep through how many JAM demos to find THAT news cut!

Iain, indeed it was Ocean / Southern ’92 that gave me the lead as the arrangements on those packages are very similar, so it didn’t take long from there having established KUSA as the original station.

                        Well spotted Jonno!

Iain: I did dig deep and I really like the KUSA (and KYGO) packages- as quite a few of them don’r really sound ‘Country’ when they have an oldies lyric, they are just a BIG brassy/string sound with some great transitions

However, as regards the ‘logo’ melody – listen again – ours is different + the intro is longer :-) Jon went back to the master tracks to mix us up a ‘semi-custom’ – he never does things by halves. We ended up with 3 distinctly different versions

I can’t choose 3, so I’ll just mention one of the jingles I have worked with which I like the most. The Chiltern news intro from the mid 80s. I don’t know which package or company made it, but it was certainly powerful and worked well over a number of years.

                                2. The Action News Theme.
                                3. Move Closer To Your World.

Mid 1980s AP Network News sounder. If anyone has it, I’d love to hear the whole package again. There was a full :60 instrumental track, and the main news hourly sounder was based on that, plus a dynamic sports sounder. I was told it was produced by Shelly Palmer. Anyone? I’ve been trying to get my hands on this for over 20 years. Thanks. :-)

I’m not a fan of sung news sounders. The first two on here are my all time favourites:

My third favourite is difficult to find, but it was used by Liberty Radio in London around 2001.

The news intro from id rather be for kimn

If Lou is referring to the WROR news intro from the “I’d Rather Be in Boston” era, I believe it was from JAM’s “Focal Point.”
One of my all time favorites!
