Regular JM'ers who were fans of Beacon – Wolverhampton (UK) in the 80s may be interested to know I'm trying to persuade Chris Harper to join this site! He now lives in Canada, has plenty of old audio, still follows radio and recomended this Calgary station to me:You can listen-on line, and the jingles are okay(ish) tho' they abbreviate the 3 syllables of 'Cal Gar Eee' to 'Cal Gree', I suspect to make it 'fit' the syndicated tracks. I do not recognise the package / company I doubt if it is JAM.
XL103 'Cal Grees Greatest Hits' is a good sounding 'oldies' station, easy on the ear.
Chris Harper and I started out together the Swansea Hospitals Radio servie – he then did breakfast on Swanseaa Sound from the very beginning, and now has a Canadian accent as he mioved there decades ago!
If you know him through Facebook nudge him to join JM !
February 6, 2009 at 2:35 pm #64960PaulLen, those jingles come from TM Studios, and have been on the air since July 2008. They're a resing of “Greatest Hits '08“.
February 6, 2009 at 10:59 pm #64962ratnobMemberHappy memories.
Chris was on breakfast when I first listened to Beacon 303 in those great “Sunshine Sound” days:

Get him on board, Len!
March 22, 2009 at 8:49 pm #65919enerjeeYeah, I'll give him a nudge too.
Having been in Canada for nearly 29 years I'm not surprised he's now got a Canadian accent – though his, and most other presenters', mid-Atlantic tones on Beacon Radio were already half-way there between 1976 and 1980, which is when he left to go to Canada.
He was an excellent presenter and produced some good stuff. I have a copy of one of his brilliant 'Super Gold Saturday' shows from 1979.
Bob Snyder also left Beacon and went to Canada at the same time as Chris.
March 23, 2009 at 10:13 pm #65938ratnobMemberBob Snyder was my hero – the DJ I most wanted to sound like.
Ah well, the career that never was!April 20, 2009 at 5:49 pm #66510kaybrennanHi Len,
My name is Kay, I'm an old friend of Chris Harper's. I have been trying to get in touch with him for a while, but the details I have for him in Calgary don't seem to be working.
If anyone knows how I can get in touch with him, please let me know. I'm on facebook and my e-mail address kay.brennan@hotmail.co.ukThanks a million
Kay
April 22, 2009 at 5:05 pm #66567JohnBarnesUKWould be good to see Chris on here.
I used to love his show on Beacon.
As I remember he left Swansea breakfast with the promise of doing lunchtime and not getting up early.
I think he was on breakfast 3 weeks later
JBMay 25, 2009 at 9:14 am #67262BelloI heard XL103 whilst in Calgary last year and absolutely love the jingles. The first one I heard was via a television advert on a Global TV affiliate!
Really good station, especilly if you like non-stop music after the morning show.
August 22, 2012 at 3:33 pm #86037mjb1124MemberThis station is apparently using JAM jingles now. I’ve been trying to stream the station but it hasn’t been working. Thought maybe it was geoblocked, but apparently the locals are having problems with it too, and the station acknowledged it on their Facebook page.
August 22, 2012 at 4:06 pm #86038BarrasI couldn`t get CFXL to stream in the UK, incidentally, there`s another Canadian station featured in JAM`s banner logo on the JAM home page, it`s CKSG in Ontario and they are streaming here..
August 22, 2012 at 5:03 pm #86040buckshotUs locals tend to pronounce it “Cal-gree” or “Cal- guhree” rather than “Cal-gary” . . .
August 22, 2012 at 5:36 pm #86042tyty21not me, i got it streaming yesterday. and a weird thing, where i’m at, (southern california), it was only an hour difference in calgary! however, if you search it via tune in, there is another link, sort of another popup window. and yes, they are using jam jingles.
August 22, 2012 at 5:43 pm #86044SeanMartinNice flow to the station with good production values. Sounds like Priority One jingles, as I listen . . .
August 22, 2012 at 6:09 pm #86045BarrasJust tried again and it playouts fine now in England UK…

Thanks for the tip, just posted some CKSG Hot Wired jingles in the Airchecks thread…
August 22, 2012 at 9:15 pm #86059mjb1124MemberGot the XL103 stream working. The jingles still sing “Cal-Gree’s Greatest Hits”, now over 70’s WABC tracks (plus a chopped-up Do It Again TOH). The announcer at the top of the hour says “Cal-ga-ree”, though. Hey, if the locals say both pronunciations are okay, who are we to argue?
August 24, 2012 at 6:13 am #86086ratnobMemberGreat aircheck – a brilliant demonstration of just how jingles can add pace and excitement to a station.
