January 18, 2012 at 8:27 pm #81771Jeffrey T. MasonMemberI found I do, in fact, have the Heller “Point One of Y” custom package for YNY. I’ll get to MP3ing them. jj
I remember hearing a “WYNY…Point One New York” jingle around 1986-1987. Was that from this package? Can’t wait to hear it!
January 18, 2012 at 8:28 pm #81772teachercreatureNobody has mentioned the Cumulus acquisition of WMAL a long time talker in D.C.
They are really pushing their FM at 105.9. Capital residents can now hear Rush and Sean in stereo.January 18, 2012 at 10:23 pm #81774loujosephsLook at the combined ratings no one is listening…wmal fm/am is a joke
January 23, 2012 at 5:12 am #81817loujosephscurrently in a soft launch this Sunday it’s really bad sounding for a cbs station, reminds one of a college station..audio processing is awful.
streaming is up and runningJanuary 24, 2012 at 8:55 pm #81835loujosephsthe all news version is on the air..it’s wins..for dc..BUT without the talent or production elements.. it’s kind of lame.. and if it last six months I will be amazed
January 25, 2012 at 1:33 am #81837jinglejoeMemberThe full Heller Corp demo for WYNY from the latter part of the 1980’s. Many edited cuts from older custom packages used along with “Heller Hooks” of popular songs of the day.
Njoy

January 26, 2012 at 12:33 am #81865TServo2049I care, I’ve got a comment – these jingles are very interesting. Sometimes, they definitely sound “late 80s,” and other times, they sound quite dated (makes sense if they reused old tracks). Kind of reminds me of when Century 21 first went back into station jingles around this same time, doing new sings over old C21 and Parma tracks.
And I had no idea that anybody tried to resurrect the “Pop Tops” concept in the late 80s. This is also probably the only time I’ve heard lead-OUT cuts, not just lead-IN ones.
What does “97 point one of y/why” MEAN? Sure, Heller lyrics were often kind of cryptic, but this positioner just baffles me.
I really enjoy hearing the rarities/obscurities/overlooked stuff from your collection. 80s jingles that aren’t from JAM or TM tend to get neglected. I’m intrigued whenever I hear stuff from Otis Conner, HLC or Heller. (Actually, these have kind of an HLC vibe to them – probably because these have many of the same singers, Ron Hicklin included…)

Heller always had a way of toying with the listener. He also reused jingles constantly. Can’t count how many times “electric mamma” was reused.
I’m glad you cared enough to comment. -
