Why is Reelworlds Mix929 so good?

Thanks to some of you I almost have the entire series from Reelworld's Mix929/WJXA complete. I think the package was based on a Groove Addicts production for NDR2 in Germany, they used the same package before Mix929 moved to RW.

I am not that a big fan of RW for AC, they all arrange with lead guitars or trumpets and almost never a acoustic guitar, sax or violin… But this package I would purchase for a hotter AC anytime.

Why? The logo melody keeps sounding fresh. The music is really 'pop'music. The arrangements are like songs. The weather bed at the beginning of the compilation I would use for the TOTH, it is funky and really stands out. And at 1'30 of this compilation the bed gives a love songs feel right away.

      What do you all think?

And they sound amazing on the air there. That is a wonderful sounding station overall and they do very well in the ratings… consistently first rated. Top shelf talent too.

          Hi Marc,

as a comparison, I thought you might like to hear some cuts from a JAM package for WJXA Nashville…

            Thanks guys!

David using KOST made Mix very light and warm, but is lacks the freshness which I think RW put in their package… Those RW cuts fit more with AC like Train, Matchbox20 and even 80's like Heart.

It seems that because it is NOT a ClearChannel station, it is more local, more personal and more 'committed' to the area where it broadcasts…

This is definitely an improvement over your typical WLIT/Reelworld One-type AC package. But it still suffers from the same problem as most RW jingles: screechy vocals. Honestly, that's my main problem with their output. Some of their jingles might be decent or even good if they had better vocalists, or at least if their existing vocalists showed more restraint in their singing.

Oh. Well I guess they cherry-picked the better cuts then.

And after listening to this montage again, I'm still not a big fan of the vocal sound, but I've definitely heard worse. The tracks are very well-produced, I have to say.

I made the montage, I am afraid I picked the better cuts…

The vocals are a bit 'thin' and they are very similar in a way, but with these music tracks the overall sound is quit good.
