Another one of those questions that puzzles me……
Who actually owns a Radio Station (audio) Logo?
Back in the Twentieth Century I know networks like (W)ABC and (W)NBC and many others had their own Logo’s which various Jingle companies over the years used to create numerous packages
BUT if it is the case that the Radio Station (or Network) own’s the rights……
Why was it that BBC Radio Two could no longer use their “Heritage” Logo that I guess they paid £000’s to Groove (being a custom package) and then obviously had to slightly change the logo for copyright reasons…..

kinda all depends on lots of stuff. just the thing to keep lawyers busy……

ok. nbc was around long before any jingle companies, and had its own “in house” group.
thus, the themes written for them inhouse belonged to them.
remember that famous line; “ill take manhatten, the bronx and statin island too….”
think that melody and hum “seventy-seven; w a b c”…….a fee was paid to use that melody.

check out the pams/thunder a-b that kenr did for tedtatman (jinglesamplers) april. its fantastic.
and keep in mind copyrights are not treated the same around the world….

as for your public radio? what the hell! money? money? theres plenty more where that came from…..taxes.

Very interesting Pete! I always wondered too. Is it possible to get copyright for 3 or 5 notes in a row?

Furthermore a lot of logos are derivates from other melodies (WMGK > Lite FM Miami, WLS > KIIS FM etcetera). If a station chooses another production company do they have to pay the original creators of a logo melody?
