MemberChris…
I think that from their inception in September 1967
(after being The Light Programme”) they only had the
PAMS “Radio 1 and 2” shared programming cuts from
the huge Radio One PAMS Series 31/32/33/34 etc etc
package. However, when the PAMS licence expired after 12 months,
the BBC went to Pepper-Tanner and RadioTwo got
(to the best of my knowledge) their first “proper”
package then with the PT “Easy Listening” package &
other added-on cuts. When the Beeb returned to PAMS after PT and the
short-lived Audio Producers (ex-Hugh Heller staff spin-off),
Radio Two got their big PAMs composite of Smart Set,
KRLD custom, KULF custom, etc circa 1972.While typing this, its just struck me that with the 40th Anniversary of
Radio One and Two this September, and the fact that Two have been
using the current increasingly-tired package for rather a long time now,
whats the chances of something fresh and special being quietely plotted
to replace the existing one somewhere deep in the heart of Broadcasting House? And IF so, who would be the Jingle Company to do it?

MemberI agree that September would be a great time for them both to launch new packages.
I am now a radio 2 man (radio 1 sounds drivel to me now I am 40) but I would love to see a return to Jam.
Am I just being sentimental?June 28, 2007 at 2:04 pm #31040RadioTimes
I've often wondered what Radio 2 did in the early days too. As Wixy says they did get some Pepper Tanner jingles in 1969, Norman Barrington has some on his website.
I have an off-air recording from the first day of Radio 2, itself taken from their 10th anniversary programme, with Paul Hollingdale on Breakfast Special. He plays what sounds like a fairly dated generic jingle encouraging listeners to “wake up easy, start the day right…” I've uploaded into the Off-Air Jingles area. Anyone know which company produced this? Did Radio 2 play anything else like this back in 1967?
Incidentally Paul is back on Radio 2 in September for the 40th. Seehttp://media.guardian.co.uk/radio/story/0,,2111959,00.html

Does anyone have any audio of the Easy Listening package from 1968? I'd love to hear some.

Chris”Have a trip round Norman Barrington's excellent website – one of the biggest
original “Classic” jingle collections anywhere – an ex-pirate era DJ with a passion
for PAMS and other companies from the 60s & 70s.The Radio Two stuff (and much more BBC) is at the following link (go to the Cart of
your choice)…http://www.normanb.net/bbc.htm
And all those tape boxes on his Home Page are for real! (…I was going to say
for “REEL”…but that would have been just a bit too cheeky…)

It's always interesting going through Norman's site. By the way, the PAMS BBC paper files, many examples shown on the site, are from Media Preservation Foundation's archives. Of course, there are some there from other sources also.
