Sounds rather similar to a ‘home made’ package I heard Heart had aired in the late 90’s. I don’t think it ran for very long. That was preceded by some very nice JAM material with the KOST resings in Birmingham and the custom in London.
July 7, 2012 at 6:22 pm #85227simon_t123MemberDid Heart have cuts from WDTM / Groove before JAM ? or after ? I’m not sure … Whilst listening to R2 this past week there was Ryan Tubridy covering for Evans but using a jock ID to launch the hour that I’d not heard of before … I wonder if that was a pre-launch wheel-out of a cut ?
Looking forward to hearing the results of this much anticipated & bureaucratic package, from the press release above it sounds like something special so far with jocks & associates of R2 working on the package …
July 7, 2012 at 7:45 pm #85232GrahamCollinsHeart launched in 1995 in London with JAM’s Heartbeat. The best part of the launch was a week of live 95.5 WPLJ from NYC run as a test transmission. Fabulous stuff, listening to Scott & Todd in the Morning and really made me think Heart would be my favourite station. As soon as the actual Heart programming started I’m afraid I switched off…….
With regard to R2 it’s all hype and back-slapping. I would predict Joe Public will not notice the difference and those of us with an unhealthy interest will be thoroughly underwhelmed.
July 7, 2012 at 7:50 pm #85233BarrasGosh…. the pre-publicity for the new Radio 2 package picks up pace on Twitter!
“I’m no jingle anorak but I heard the new BBC Radio2 jingle package earlier and it sounds amazing! Good work Wise Buddah”
That’s from Adam Utyman
He’s a PRODUCER on the Steve Wright Show…..
How can anyone NOT be a “jingle anorak” working on the Steve Wright show !!!
July 8, 2012 at 9:20 am #85238LenGroatJuly 9, 2012 at 3:33 pm #85261loujosephsAnd the winner is Wise Buddah, for the new radio 2 jingles..

By this time next week we will know!!
July 9, 2012 at 5:59 pm #85265GrahamCollinsThere’s no secret – Wise Buddah have made the new jingles for R2 and most of us here have known this for 6 weeks. A few people have even heard some of the cuts. Don’t expect anything radical or cutting edge is all I will say !

The original Heart in the West Midlands definitely launched with JAM. I wasn’t able to hear it but I’m sure the London one did too but with different jingles to the West Midlands. Heartbeat never aired on 100.7. Heart West Midlands was originally going to launch as Heart of England Radio which was the name of it’s Radio Authority bid.
Anyway, kind of looking forward to next Monday. I thought the Groove stuff sounded quite different when it launched. Their tag was Different Every Time and jingles were definitely different to the JAM stuff that came before (which always reminds me of Peggy Lee / comedy records and easy listening music). Will the next lot be as different or will they not be so brave?
July 9, 2012 at 11:05 pm #85279simon_t123Member@AndyW, I was thinking the other day about how much has happened in my life since the Groove Addicts R2 package came on-air for the first time in 1997 … I worked in radio full time ’97, had my first car in ’97, have been married, divorced and had several children now !!! all whilst that package has been on the air …
Perhaps life will settle down now haha
Heart 106.2 was certainly JAM from launch, that great custom ‘Heartbeat’ was the package, I never knew there was a station in the midlands first mind as the internet wasd not as it was in this day & age so news took it’s time to travel ! At some stage there were certainly jingles made by Groove Addicts sung as “100.7 Heart FM” but I’ve no idea from what time these came, also they had cuts by Music4 (possibly when called Vibe Music & Audio Imaging) as well as some JAM as you say and more recently sometimes good, sometimes weird arrangements of IQBeats packages for London’s Heart 106.2 …
That’s off-topic mind … I’m looking forward to the new Wise Buddah sound for R2, some quite random people have heard audio from the package already & I sadly am not one !
I wonder if the new package will run for as many years as the ’97 package has …
July 10, 2012 at 2:10 pm #85283IainJohnstonMemberThe original Heart FM (English Midlands regional) package from JAM included cuts from Celebrate – but I’ve some later aircheck cassette stuff with (apparently JAM) items that I couldn’t place at the time.
Audio anyone? (e.g. Alfasound Collector cassettes?)
July 10, 2012 at 3:16 pm #85285AndyWMemberSorry, you’re right. It was KVIL not KOST. I did try and get a copy from the master reels a few years ago when I knew some people who worked there but the tapes had long since been united with a skip. This was still in the very late Chrysalis days.

Heart FM launch package (West Mids) from Alfa cassettes.
July 10, 2012 at 7:36 pm #85289LenGroatThat’s a strange link Christian (?)
takes me to a SoundCloud page I’ve not seen before!
This seems to be going VERY off-topic??
July 10, 2012 at 8:40 pm #85295stephenYou may be interested to know that the new Earshot Creative Review podcast will have all the cuts, with their commissioner, Chris Reay, sharing the back story. http://earshotcreative.com It’s out Monday morning when you wake up.
July 12, 2012 at 2:14 pm #85327simon_t123MemberStephen, splennnnnndid I’ll be listening to that …
July 15, 2012 at 9:40 pm #85378NickySMemberAll I am going to say is I quite like “Big Hair”
July 16, 2012 at 7:00 am #85384ratnobMemberOnly disadvantage to listening in for the jingles this owning was having to hear the dreadful Vanessa Feltz. Jingles are sounding good – love the news jingle and the new Evans song.
July 16, 2012 at 7:53 am #85385NickySMemberAnd Earshot has the podcast up already – as promised by Mr M
http://earshot.tvi.gg/2012/07/earshot-creative-review-july-2012/July 16, 2012 at 8:17 am #85386DavidHemsleyThere is a video of the jingles currently on this page:
Not sure how long it will feature there
July 16, 2012 at 8:30 am #85387LenGroatFrom the days of small reels of magnetic tape, with 5th generation copies of 3 year old PAMS jingle demos, today we have the full package, digital quality, the story behind them (well done Chris…) AND the video!
All that is missing is the ‘t’ shirt ? !
It’s unfair to judge them on one intense listen… but clearly the package as a whole is well thought-out, based on musical styles of 5 decades (but a 1975 ‘Steeler’s Wheel’ guitar /drum sound on too many maybe) one ‘inspired’ by ELO, one sounds like an old Classic FM cut, one based on the JAM ‘Dan Fogleberg cut from decades ago (?) and one that sounds like the antique ‘Smart Set’ style….
(Oh the attempt at ‘Sonovox’ on the Popmaster cut was so inaudible I missed it first time; why not just do REAL Sono !?)
I like several of the female vocal cuts because of the singers, Clare Teal sounds like a real jingle singer. But I find the ‘male rock voice/voices’ too abrasive for the repetitive play demanded of ‘jingles’ – they just sound like a Simon Cowell hopeful trying far too hard to be ‘earthy’.
I least like the gospel breakfast jingle as this has been ‘done’ for far too long, it’s a jaded concept now +I could not hear the names being sung. I would have gone for a far softer style jingle for Jeremy Vine as his show has a lot of ‘sensitive’ moments.
Overall, clearly in 2012 radio jingles have gone down every avenue possible and we just re-visit familiar territory. But for a fresher style, I’d pursue new areas by having a 4 men / one woman block vocal sound by JINGLE singers, not solo vocalists.
Well done to Chris on surviving the LONGEST ‘jingle pregnancy’ EVER!
p.s. Ratnob
Yes VF is truly awful…. but like that other early morning woman I fear she’ll be there for an eternity – it’s the BBC way….

For the direct link to that videoJuly 16, 2012 at 8:58 am #85389GrahamCollinsMr Cynic here is actually more impressed than he thought he would be. It is a proper jingle package and not just one theme mixed and cut 50 different ways.
The jingles in the podcast sound better compared to the air versions which have been produced with the familiar (and annoyingly chirpy) female read strapline.
Chris Evans played all his in one go this morning – good man !
Now let’s hope the producers and presenters are encouraged to actually use them.
July 16, 2012 at 9:19 am #85390simon_t123Membernot bad at all I had R2 on the bedside alarm this morning just in time for the 7am news in, I think from there I had a feeling the overall sound might well not be changing a great deal … I got a fix for the larger package from the Earshot Creative Review over brekkie & found a link to the video above on the Chris Evans R2 webpage … he’s showcased the versions and additional name cuts from the gospel brekkie theme but … I wonder, I really wonder how much mileage that one cut and it’s various versions might have ?
I’m liking the styles & variety of the cuts showcased on the ECR, it does remind me very much however of the styles & variety of the full package demo for the original batch of ‘Groove’ jingles circa 1997, even so the modern stuff I’m liking
I’m thinking the Beatles jingles in the middle of the ECR montage are re-sung versions of previous Wise Buddah R2 jingles from recent years ? If so perhaps some of the more recent or established show themes & DJ specific jingles might of had the same treatment ? time will tell …
