Anybody think it would be worthwhile to try and arrange another night like the Wham Bam Thank You Jam night ?
I’ve spoken to some of the main protagonists since the day , and all have said they’d be up for it . I’m sure that with a bit of advance planning as well , It could be an entire evening instead of just an hour , AND we could get Jon Wolfert to come in person, as well as David Graupner (2 regular visitors to these shores and to forums such as this) , and Steve England (who I talked to in the week after the event and was disappointed that he’d missed it) . Also any chance to play more jingles and get Tony Blackburn in an head to head with the main British talent (remember his comments?) would be worth travelling to see !!!
So , what do others think? Worthwhile or just an anoraks dream? Feel free to leave your comments
July 6, 2003 at 6:21 pm #23316MadSounds like a good idea Dave.
I’d be happy to help as much as possible, either thru jinglemad.com or other.
Be interested to hear other peoples comments too.

July 6, 2003 at 7:02 pm #23317stacey_harrisI think it should be held in the epicentre of jingle collecting / producing. Leeds.
July 6, 2003 at 7:44 pm #23318MartinSYeah, I was going to suggest the next one should be held more centrally, as I couldn’t make London last time (mainly due to time and cost).
Anywhere in either the North West or Yorkshire regions sounds a good idea.

Never before has Stacey spoken so much sense
That’ll be a cheaper taxi home than the last Wham Bam!

What a magnificent idea, Mr Harris .. . . . at least you didn’t suggest to have it in my front lounge, or worse still, my new garden!!
Seriously . . . sounds a good idea, as long as we DON’T get the Radio Academy involved! That way we could make it a “proper” jingle event, we don’t need it to be WBTYJ2 OR ID99 – we would need it to be a general jingle thing, the sort of event that WE would want to be a part of.
July 7, 2003 at 9:21 am #23321davewsounds like a great idea i no that bmi do cheap flights to leeds bradford airport we could all get together again but i think i will go easy on the stella this time also johny beerling lives in skipton im sure that he would come along to i have his moblie number and e mail i will ask him next time we speak hope everyone is well cheers for now dave w in sunny jersey

Dave – I remember that incident on the Victoria line – so I would say to you – “stay off the Stella”!!!!!
July 7, 2003 at 10:47 am #23323MadAll we need now is someone to either volunteer organise it, or someone to suggest a date..
Anyone still up for the idea of an offical uk jingle club? 😮

To be honest Roy, I think JM is as close to a “club” as we will get.
I think we should have jingle meets like MUK used to have meets . . . . I’ll arrange one for Leeds in August if anyone is interested, just a meet – no star guests (unless they want to come of course).
July 7, 2003 at 7:54 pm #23326bigdave1I’ll be up for that !
As for Leeds , what an excellent idea Stacey ! There’s nearly as many pubs on Boar Lane to get Stella’d up on than in Leicester Square . I’m sure Chris and David would back me up on that one , won’t you gents?
All we need to know is when everyone’s available – weekends are always good …and as for the big event , if anyone wants to take it on seriously, let us know here and I’m sure we can all pull together to make it a winner !!

Yes, and you get a lot more change as well!
I’d suggest late September, as that way people’s holidays are out of the way, and it’s something to look forward to in the autumn.
July 8, 2003 at 8:26 am #23330MadSeptember sounds good.
I can do anything after the 13th. The further away, the more chance of more people becoming available.
And Leeds is fine for me too, being a posh northerner
July 8, 2003 at 6:43 pm #23331SpoonsGREAT idea.
Stace – you’ve come up with a belter there me owd mucker.
We could get Hirsty to come.
He’s a Galaxy breakfast star!
July 9, 2003 at 8:18 am #23333davewyes im sure that hirsty would come along he was great fun at the last do in april and he knows all the words to the jam song he likes a few beers as well but he is a true star he made it back to leeds for his breakfast show he loves radio and is a nice bloke as well cheers dave
July 9, 2003 at 9:38 am #23334MadI think as a condition of attendance, you must know all the lyrics to the Jam song anyway 😯 …

Yes . . I’ll be on the door and everyone can sing it to me on the way in.
I’ll ask Cath Baxter to come . . . . you never know.

She can bring the wine!

LOL – yes. . . .
July 14, 2003 at 8:01 pm #23347MartinSThe only thing about it being in Leeds is that after the smallest amount of Stella I am likely to be singing syndications of JAM KIIS 90, JAM The Beat and TMCentury new WPLG/DallasPower/Y98FM, all containing the lyric “96.3” – can’t think why 😆
Ah… that day in November 1994 when a version of TM Century “the new WPLJ” cut 2 blasted out down The Headrow, as we prepared for yet another lights swith on. Those were the days.
Of course, south Leeds is still home to a station with a fab jingle package!

July 16, 2003 at 11:34 pm #23357mbMemberOf all those listed I really like the Beat package with the Yorkshires best tag, Although the KISS FM resing were good it did feel like Aire FM only had a few jingles whereas with the Std sound package and the Beat package you never felt that. But then “more Music” aire FM seemed to be very tight when launched with les everything and more music – i seem to remebmer Magic 828 even doing better ratings wise for a while.
Aire has been the home of classic packages, but it would be nice to have a jingle meeting where the people behind Sum Manning, Cath Baxter, Alfasound and those other great UK classic package produces can get thier dues. There is nothing as nice as listening to the 1984 Sue Manning Piccadilly Package.

Yes there is !! The 1984 Cath baxter Viking package !!!
July 17, 2003 at 8:27 pm #23361MartinSWasn’t CBC based in a village just to the east of Leeds?
JAM The Beat was a special one for me too, lots of memories, I remember hearing the package on the day it was put live (Monday 27th July 1992) sitting listening to the radio outside Jimmy’s! If only I had the theme tune for that Leeds produced TV program!
Are Leeds based Mezzo/Music Force still going – the company that did the Music Power and Only the Best Music packages for Aire in 1995/6?

CBC’s studio was based in Cawood, nr Selby, and they had an office in Leeds too.
