After about 3 or 4 years of using no jingles at all, WDRC-FM in Hartford, CT has gotten the “Home of the Hits” package from JAM. They had used “Do It Again” before dumping jingles, and renaming the station “Big Hits 102.9” a few years ago. The station is pretty weak here where I am, but here's a few that I recorded.

Here's a few more of the WDRC jingles, with better sound quality this time. Their HD signal was in and out, whicy you'll hear with the sound level going up and down somwwhat.

It looks like these jingles may have a very short life on DRC-FM unfortunately. According to this newspaper article, they're changing back to older oldies tomorrow, and possibly their previous “Big D 103” name. I believe they did have the Do It Again package sung with the Big D name years ago, but I think they may have used TM Century or Thompson also. It should be interesting to see what happens.

I'm hoping maybe these jingles will just be resung to say “Big D 103”. I did get to hear most of the package during a trip to Boston, and it sounded great, as did the music mix. Mixing in more pre-64 music should work fine, though I don't think it should be at the expense of later music they play.

Looks like the newspaper reporter made it seem like it was going to be a much more dramatic change than it actually ended up being. I haven't heard it myself yet, but according to someone's post on radio-info, they're now just playing some of the older songs again once in a while, added some reverb on the audio, and are throwing in “the big D” as part of their name once in a while. The “Home of the Hits” jingles are still on the air, according to the poster.

I was at a party on Saturday with their morning jock and he said that the article was hub-bub about nothing other than some older music being added to the format and adding reverb to the jocks. Big whoop.

Well, it's not like the station really needed a drastic change, IMO. Adding reverb and pre-64 oldies should just make a good station even better. And I don't see why they needed to lose the “Big D” moniker in the first place. I'm tempted to take a drive out that way just to hear how they sound now.

                      Were they that good?
I wish I would had chance to hear them.
