Speaking of WCBS-FM, they've recently started using a really bad edit of Home of the Hits cut 9. The jingle starts out “More music, 101…” then abruptly cuts to the ending tag. It sounds REALLY choppy, not to mention unnecessary. Are those extra two seconds that precious? And it's not like they aren't using the full frequency on other jingles or liners. I thought this was just a glitch the first time I heard it, but it came up again tonight.

Of course this is very minor in the grand scheme of things – I still love the station and I'm really glad it's back.

not everything gets streamed on streaming radio and that includes commercials, songs, adlibs and sometimes the jingles. i think it has something with their automation and the syncing stuff.

see this is what happens when machines take over humans to run a radio station. sigh

I have listened to the package at the Jam website & it's not included on the package. I remember hearing this drum roll jingle on a Jumbo records lp in the 70's. Any help. Take a listen at the top of the hour to WCBS FM.

            Many thanks.

              Rob,

as Beaver205 said it`s from Do It Again – is this the cut you mean or have you heard another TOH ?

              http://www.4shared.com/file/40161696/153caf21/JAM_WCBS_TOH_08_March_2008.html?

Just recorded that today (Sat 8th March 2008)

No, I heard this on their actual air signal, TWICE, and I'm pretty sure it was intentional.

And Rob: WCBS-FM has not used any top-of-the-hour ID's other than the Do It Again one since they came back. Perhaps the jingle you're thinking of is not a TOH but just a regular jingle? Your description makes me think it might be a cut from Positron or LogoSet.

Yep… and I really don't get it either. Especially after becoming accustomed to the original cut, hearing the “.1” removed from the jingle sounds terribly awkward. The jingle just doesn't flow. We know that they have some amazing talent over there at WCBS-FM with regards to editing (the montage leading up to last July's flip was amazingly done), but it seems that this edit was careless, and, as was mentioned, unnecessary.

Surprisingly, the “Merry Christmas” jingle from JAM's “Holiday Pack” was also shortened last Christmas. They went right from the “Merry Christmas” vocal to “from CBS-FM” without any little musical “interlude.” Not much time is saved through these small little edits; I'd love to know whose idea it was to do this. It's ridiculous.

I guess these days with advertisers and consultants having such a strong grip on radio stations, every second counts.

They've also edited a few jingles to remove the word “oldies”, but at least those were done fairly smoothly. I agree that CBS-FM's production department does some great work, but somebody really goofed here.

EDIT: By the way, what package is this jingle from?

                    http://www.4shared.com/file/40301546/605c3b9e/cbs30908.html

I'm guessing it's something WABC used back in the day, but I haven't been able to spot the original. This is the “a capella” version by the way – there's also one with instruments backing up the singers.

Not sure if WABC ever used it, but it's Music Jam Cut #18. Was demoed for WLS. Not a bad little shotgun!

Interesting – thanks! I know WABC used some WLS cuts in the late 70s so it's a possibility that they used this one. I wasn't alive then so I wouldn't know for sure. All of the other shotguns that CBS-FM had resung in 2004 are from Positron and LogoSet.
