Anyone have any 80s, 90s or 2000’s jingles from the Voice of America? VOA Europe had some good ones until they closed down in the late 90s and I’ve heard them ages ago but can’t find them anymore. And I’ve heard some general VOA ones, but only short single cuts.

Thank you very much in advance

Ooh, nice… I’ve never heard those before.

Mental note, must trawl through the site and download stuff to listen to when the daily commute resumes in a couple of weeks. :)

Were the cuts piloted for VOA Europe, or for Sunny 95?

Marc, according to the JAM on the air page:

“JAM has created many custom packages for both VOA and VOA Europe. Some of those cuts were used in packages such as Bright & Sunny and Sunlight.”

so it would seem that they (some or all?) were customs for VOA.

I think we need Jon to give the definitive answer!

To my ear, it sounds like the cuts were originally written for the VOA Europe logo, but then were resung for Sunny 95. Plus, in the demo for Brite & Sunny, the PD for VOA Europe says “… as a matter of fact, we created the Brite & Sunny package for VOA Europe, and it’s helping to identify United States radio in 14 countries of western Europe.”

KGOW 1560 “Bellaire”(Houston), Texas runs an hour of VOA programming each night and I’ve caught the VOA jingle on there a few times. I am in Laramie, Wyoming 900 miles and reception happens after dark so reception isn’t the best but here’s the audio complete with what sounds like a somewhat vintage news theme intro music bed

                      This is KGOW’s night signal:

The sung jingle in there is cut 6 from the And Now package (originally for UKRD Group in the UK, demoed for Mix 100 Denver).

All of the tracks in “Brite & Sunny” and “Sunlight” were originally created for VOA Europe. We did change a few of the brass and guitar parts to customize it for Sunny 95 (WSNY), but you can still hear the “VOA Europe” or “VOA” logos in several of the tracks if you concentrate.
