Tony Blackburn has always embraced social media, and here he uses Periscope – the live video sharing app – to play jingles and talk about them.
Not sure how long the link will last:

He mentions the fact that he has five new jingles on ‘Pick of the Pops’ this weekend, and the way he listened into the Dallas vocal session from Broadcasting House. We need to get him onto JingleMad.

Tony certainly likes 1960s PAMS jingles(!)

Any means known of downloading/capturing periscope items for “play later” offline?

              EDIT – found a trial version…

Gosh I saw this later but what a TOTAL Legend – he’s still a 21 year old dj at heart!

We had BIG L on from 8 to 6 in my dad’s shop when I was 15 – no wonder I love radio and 60s songs. One kind person even said “Solid Gold GEM AM has great jingles” – yes we’ve got a LOT of the old ‘Big L’ ones.

Maybe the BBC tv could do a documentary “Tony Blackburn visits JAM jingles in Dallas”?!

GW – can’t get IDM to actually download the audio/video itself, just the linker (in F/fox).

IDM screen interface is “messy”, to be polite!
Where am I going wrong – can you give a command-by-command set of user instructions please?

                    @ Iain:

Periscope appears to use the TS file extension for video. You may need to install a codec or different media play to play TS video files.

Close Firefox. Then, open IDMs interface.

Under General, click Customize IDM Download panels in browsers Edit button.
Click Add, in the box type TS, then click OK. Then OK again.

Next, click Options>File Types. In the top box with the file extensions, add TS (make sure there is a space between each entry). Then click OK.

Now open Firefox and the page with Tony’s video. Play the video and then an icon should appear right above the video player. Click on the green icon/download this video button.
Name the video and choose a location to save to.

The interface does appear confusing at first glance, but gets easier the more you explore it.

I’m watching this now via the Periscope App … I had no idea you could watch past sessions in the app … gotta love Tony Blackburn for this personal touch & sharing those jingles :) The ‘Wheeler Dealers’ presenters Edd & Mike did the same prior to their new TV series & it just adds a kind of depth to these experiences that’s almost magical, this isn’t the non-approachable celebs you sometimes get … TB will even like & reply to everyday comments & statuses on Facebook … It’s just good that some people are willing to put some ‘human’ into it all :) and the jingles TB plays here are amazing & the backstories are priceless !!!

Thanks for the link ratnob. Wow, love the ‘stereo music’ Music Now re-sing! Suggestion for another re-sing….Radio 1 275/285 and stereo VHF to…………’Radio 2, DAB, Digital….And Stereo VHF!!!! Although the term VHF is dead and buried on announcements now (more’s the pity) would be in keeping with Tony’s retro show!

Love it. There’s something hilariously charming about his pronunciation of ‘JAMS’.

Something even funnier when Tony then “corrected” himself from JAM(S) and said PAMS(!) regarding the new jingles.
