Theres no doubt Tony likes those jingles he's used them on Radio London, Radio 1, Radio London ( BBC ) and now Radio 2. The show sounds upbeat and different from everything else on the dial. Finally an oldies show with CLASS in the UK.
January 30, 2011 at 5:02 pm #77451jingle fanHaving listened to these several times I think us oldies who can remember the originals obviously notice the different vocal arrangement in terms of the “Dallas Sound”. But the sono are these re-sung because they are so good and I can't tell them apart from JW.
Regarding “Rockin Ron”. Why not have a job swap for Two weeks in the summer RR presenting POTP and TB presenting All request Saturday nights on WRDC. That would certainly have some reactions. Lovely to be able to sing-along with the jingles we so love though. Well Done R2 and Tony Blackburn…Whoopeeeee.

One last point: the 'Tower' jingle is of course a re-licencing of a Radio 1 Cut ~ their version is FORTY THREE years old !Fantastic isn`t it, forty three years old for a jingle and it`s on-the-air in 2011, here it is…

There are other “BBC” jingles they could use from the original Radio One package, how about this one…

They could even use Tony`s original name-check jingle…

And of course, the original lyrics could be mixed with stereo tracks to keep them authentic but still brining them up to date . . . .
And also, as I have mentioned on The JIngle Network – it would be better now if the BBC had the Wise Buddah intro resung with the same S2Blue singers and that now sounds out of place . . .
January 30, 2011 at 8:18 pm #77455IainJohnstonMemberI wouldn't bother with resinging the WB item – the whole key-ing and “texture” of it seemed completely out-of-context with both Tony's style and the music being played.
It clashed. Just bin it.January 30, 2011 at 8:27 pm #77457DavidHemsleyWixy1360 wrote:

It clashed. Just bin it.But it still fits with the theme tune so I'd keep it because of that . . . .

I think those who criticise us 'oldies' for our attitude towards certain jingle companies might have a hard job explaining WHY a 50 year old track (series 18 'Whoopee !) re-done in 2011 in Manchester, can sound SO MUCH BETTER, original and entertaining than the very mediocre Wise Buddah attempt at a 'jingle'.I suspect TB or his producer realised how lame having the one jingle sounded, for a presenter who is so skilled at 'dropping in' jingles 'here there and everywhere' which explains why these were ordered after the show had launched.
The sonovox and vocals are 'A1 to my ears' and I 'grew up with PAMS' so I'm not sure why anyone feels different?
When TB is 70 they can replace them with re-sings from Priority 1 and Dimension 2, maybe even sung in Dallas!?
“It's just the right day for lis' nin'
to Ray Dee Ooo Twooo
Pick of the Pops
with Tone Ee Black Burn !”January 30, 2011 at 10:04 pm #77460AndyWaltersMemberI think they sound pretty good for UK re sings. My only beef it that they only really work with the 60's years. Pity we can't have some JAM WABC re sings for the 70's charts and some JAM Z100/WPLJ re sings for the 80's! That's asking a bit much though isn't it.
As with everyone else, the only one that I think sounds a bit naff is the Wise Buddah one. The last crop of Radio 2 ones don't sound great to me. Even the Groove Addicts re sings where they over annunciate the lyric.

It does make you wonder why they're having them sung in Stafford rather than Dallas though.Because as we have heard from the quality, they don't NEED to have them sung in Dallas.
Plus there's the cost . . . .

S2Blue are ok, but here's a recent Rockin' Ron resing by JAM – I think that the Dallas team still have that extra "edge".
January 31, 2011 at 5:19 pm #77466DavidHemsleyWe have a quote from Tony Blackburn . . . on the Jingle News Show, out tomorrow – http://www.thejinglenetwork.info
January 31, 2011 at 7:50 pm #77467GlennaMemberThey probably wanted the British accent instead of the Texas southern U.S. accent.
February 1, 2011 at 4:43 pm #77481brucieDavid in the scheme of things cost wouldn't have really been a major issue on these IMHO.
Sorry if I've put the cat amognst the pigeons re s2blue…
Thier PJW resings were mostly good/great but only because they sang in an American accent (use of the the original PAMS vocal tracks also helped massively)
IMHO only and your mileage may vary
BTW most of the Alphasound stuff I grew up with are still my faves…
February 1, 2011 at 7:42 pm #77484BarrasHow about this one…
February 1, 2011 at 7:55 pm #77486DavidHemsleyThe Jingle News Show has these cuts on the new show just released today – i didnt listen to the entire Pick of the Pops, but I think there is a cut on there that didn't air this week? not 100% certain about that . . .
July 12, 2011 at 2:48 pm #79674mumossIs it my imagination, or have some new cuts been added to the show?
July 12, 2011 at 7:22 pm #79677IainJohnstonMemberI think you're right!
I heard a small bit of the programme on Saturday, and I heard the PAMS Series 27 long "weekend" cut which I haven't heard TB use before.Does POTP go out on BBC iPlayer I wonder?
July 12, 2011 at 7:57 pm #79678RobinBlamiresMost popular Radio 2 show on iPlayer since Tony Blackburn took over. Shouldn't be hard to find…
July 12, 2011 at 8:03 pm #79680jonnoMemberI use Radio Downloader (http://www.nerdoftheherd.com) a crakcing program that just silently downloads every edition of BBC programmes I 'subscribe' to so I never miss anything if I don't get to iPlayer soon enough.
July 13, 2011 at 8:42 am #79684IainJohnstonMemberThanks Gents – must definately give this creaking PC's software suite a throrough overhaul & update I think!
July 22, 2011 at 9:08 am #79781Simon @ S2blueMemberIs it my imagination, or have some new cuts been added to the show?
Hi,
Yes we sung a number of additional PAMS cuts a couple of weeks ago (it was actually part of Steve's last vocal session before he retired) so you should hear them on air soon if they're not being used already. I've also attached a picture from the session.
We'll get the additional cuts on S2blue.com during the next update to the site. In the meantime all our PAMS resings are on: http://www.s2blue.com/showcase-imaging-pams.aspx
July 22, 2011 at 12:27 pm #79782AndyWaltersMemberIt's a pity they don't have a selection of JAM POTP cuts that would work as well for the late 70's years onwards as the PAMS jingles do for earlier years.
