Noticed that S2Blue has put a message on their Facebook page today – they're resinging some PAMS jingles for Tony Blackburn's new Radio 2 show today. So this must mean he'll have some more new jingles when the show goes live for the first time at the end of this month!

This is excellent news. Reminds me of when Pirate Johnnie Walker got some great PAMS resings a few weeks into the show.
Can't wait!
January 14, 2011 at 10:44 am #77142LenGroatThis is good news ~ Tony and PAMS go back FORTY FIVE years ! I always thought he was one of the best Radio 1 presenters at using jingles well (3 CT80s – 3 jingles in a row !) or into music, particularly in the JAM 'Priority 1' days !
I'm sure S2Blue will do some superb re-sings, and it will be interesting to hear what tracks were chosen ?
The only question left to answer is did Tony initiate this as part of his deal with the Beeb, or is there a 'secret PAMS admirer' amongst the BBC producers ?!
January 16, 2011 at 12:26 am #77167AndyWaltersMemberWe'll know soon enough. Apparently next week (22nd Jan) is the last pre recorded Pick Of The Pops. The following week is live with whatever new production it brings with it!
S2 Blue do some quite good re sings of PAMS jingles from what I've heard of their previous efforts in that area. It does make you wonder why they're having them sung in Stafford rather than Dallas though.January 16, 2011 at 11:33 am #77171mbMemberWonder of we'll have Tony blackburn does it with frequency?
Resung for D A B it fits hahahahaahhahJanuary 16, 2011 at 8:05 pm #77175BarrasCouldn`t resist posting it…

January 25, 2011 at 1:15 pm #77328RadioTimesThe s2Blue resings have started to air this week in the promos for this weekend's show.
Based on this at least two of the jingles are Series 31 City Sound (of course Tony's first jingle when he opened Radio 1 in '67) and Series 18 Sonoguitar Slides (I think this is known as).http://jinglemad.com/e107_files/public/1295961267_2406_FT83011_tony_blackburn_potp_promo.mp3 filename:tony_blackburn_potp_promo.mp3

January 25, 2011 at 4:21 pm #77338IainJohnstonMemberHaving just seen your “Geordie dictionary” translations over on that other thread David, I'm sure there'll be a LOT of people out there getting even more confused!
:^)January 28, 2011 at 1:37 pm #77404brucieI hate to say this but what makes s2blue's resings of PAMS series 31 sound totally wrong is female vocals in the mix!
The original only featured a powerful 4-male vocal sound with Marvin Shaw on lead. This gave these them their distinctive sound….
I always cringe when I hear their resings like this and unless they stick to the same charts IMHO it really sounds naff.
Sorry
January 29, 2011 at 10:21 pm #77426ratnobMemberThe first PAMS resing Tony B used on the show today sounds terrific, methinks.
January 29, 2011 at 11:50 pm #77428mbMemberThey were nice to hear, he used them effortlessly and they are some of the bst resings I've heard. One thing you have to give Radio 2 is that individual shows have personality.
Well done to S2Blue.January 30, 2011 at 1:00 am #77429LenGroatJanuary 30, 2011 at 6:11 am #77431Barrasratnob wrote:

With more use of jingles like that, our leader Tony Blackburn could end up sounding like “Rockin” Ron Sedaille at WDRC…hope so !!!
January 30, 2011 at 7:05 am #77432ratnobMemberHere's that sonovox “whoopee” cut:
January 30, 2011 at 7:11 am #77433ratnobMemberOn a related theme, must say I hadn't noticed that S2Blue had sung over some PAMS and JAM tracks for Johnnie Walker:

David, between hearing Geoff's aircheck of resung Series 27 “Live, this weekend…” then your comment, I'd thought the same!
I wonder if Mr B has been following the Ron Sedaille internet phenonemon, and thinking “I know that I can bring that style of radio back to the UK again!”
Certainly, the ability to use jingles BETWEEN “records” and still maintain a tight flowing link is an artform now very much lost on UK radio, and that includes many other Radio 2 “presenters” (as in 1 jingle after news, 1 (talked-over) traffic news intro at :20, no more for 35 mins, then 1 news intro at :59)
So “Well Done!” Mr B, and Many Happy Returns for being 68 yesterday too!
PS – some people over on DigitalSpy think the TB and Johnnie Walker PAMS resings were done by Wise Buddah or even Groove!
Never never never never…!!!PPS – seeing the comment about female voices included in some modern resings of “original” PAMS 27 / 31 (even 37) etc where only all-male vocalists were used – I'm not decrying JAM in any way, but do S2Blue possibly achieve just a little bit more “authentic PAMS” vocal sound on such resings than the current Dallas vocalists do (and that includes the KenR group when they were doing them)?
January 30, 2011 at 3:44 pm #77445ratnobMemberMain thing is: let's celebrate the return of live and lively presentation with great jingles used brilliantly and creatively. Not often we write such things on JingleMad!
January 30, 2011 at 3:47 pm #77446rakMemberRegarding the comments on the Digitalspy posts, I think they were talking about the new POTP jingle (with the Groove logo) that's been on air a few weeks being Groove, rather than the PAMS/S2B cuts that aired yesterday. [edited to correct typo]
January 30, 2011 at 3:48 pm #77447IainJohnstonMember“let's celebrate the return of live and lively presentation with great jingles used brilliantly and creatively”
I'll second that!(…and I noticed from BossJock's sampling that some of the original non-specific-R1orR2 PAMS 1967 items were “on” too).

Radio 2 'taking Tony' back to the BeeB (where he truly belongs) shows what sMoOtH Radio COULD have done when they had him on Saturday breakfast, but failed to (no programming imagination wrapped in a 'presentation straight-jacket'!)It has also had a diversfying affect on Radio 2's jingles. It looks as if regardless of who makes the 'main' station package in 2011 several shows will continue to use jingles from diverse companies ~ that IS a good idea considering the diverse nature of the station's music/ presenters.
Given that JAM 'owns' PAMS 100% this is really Jon and JAM getting back on the Beeb but with the vocals being done in Manchester it is also politically acceptable. It's a WinWin situation!
One last point: the 'Tower' jingle is of course a re-licencing of a Radio 1 Cut ~ their version is FORTY THREE years old !
