PPM – as in “personal program metering” or whatever?

Certain UK radio companies (particulary Talksport) wanted to use this, but it was poo-poo'ed by Ofcom/RA despite trials carried out by…Talksport's owners.

Reason? using automatic electronic meters worn by the “monitors” apparently showed better listening figures (hours and reach) for AM stations and worse figures for FM ones than the “official” RAJAR ones (which involve the “monitors” filling-in paper “diaries” of what they thought they (subjectively might have) listened to.

I am sure, that TM is working on something amazing at this time. Art is never rushed, that's probably the reason why we don't hear so much customs from the Dallas company these days.

K2 is produced by Ricky Roo, so TM is only reselling the service.

Actually, PPM stands for 'Peak Programme Meter', if we're talking about audio levels!

          Regards,

          Dave.

In this particular instance Dave, "PPM" is the ratings monitoring system above, as used widely now in the States (Arbitron etc).

As for "few customs" from TM (and indeed JAM), its a sign of the poverty now (moral, financial, and creative) of the radio business in the USA and certainly also now the UK (…where it now takes a single non-group "ILR" station such as Scotland's Kingdom FM to order/commission a brand-new Dallas custom rather than a "big group" of tons of stations doing it).

OK. Thanks for the clarification. So, what does PPM stand for in this instance?

              Regards,

              Dave.

Incidentally, I love what JAM say on their website about PPM:

With more and more markets utilizing electronic ratings technology (PPM or "People Meter") some have asked whether recall still matters. After all, the meter will supposedly know what you're listening to even if you don't. But if you want listners to return to your spot on the dial, they still have to know who you are and where to find you. Consider this: the bottle of Coca-Cola you buy at the grocery store has a bar code on it so that the "meter" will know what's in the bottle even if you don't. But that doesn't stop Coke from putting a pretty label on their product and advertising the brand. You should do the same thing with your audio.
