I usually avoid certain UK commercial stations due to their heavy rotation of the same old tired music (or “re-currents” as I believe they are called).
However, I’ve recently heard a particular item in my daughter’s car which kept on nagging at something at the back of my jingle mind…
Is “C&nt St%p the Feel**g” by J Timber…e esquire, full of the choruses which are very blatently the same melody (and female “group sound”?
as that from the main image song from TM’s old “Rhythm of the City”, which was discussed on JM not too long back????If so, it would be ironic that after 40+ years of various incarnations of TM making jingles which heavily “nod”ed towards the melodies/style of
specific songs of their eras, someone has gone and “done it back to them”?

Here’s a version of the Rhythm Of The City jingle:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjeR7qiqqn8Justin’s song (skip to 1:07) which I like a lot:

Some particular examples of the “tag-line” melody also around 2:40 on the song video.
But it does go to show that a good sung ID jingle “does stick in one’s head” – which IS the idea after all;
now, where’s TM’s “legal department”, should be some nice royalties potential there – OR did they perhaps
back then [ahem] “lift” the melody for ROTC from a disco song of that era? And that might now have gone full circle?

Doing this on a phone, so hope that link works!

Both songs do indeed sound quite similar to the Best Show melody, though I don’t think it’s so close that Jon and his lawyers should be knocking on their doors.
Not sure I hear that much of a connection between Rhythm of the City and the JT song. They both draw from some of the same influences, perhaps, but the melodies and instrumentation are sufficiently distinctive to my ears.

M’Lud, the proposer submits its (audio) case, and retires for the jury to consider its verdict…..
