I;m sure they had Jam back in the day being owned by ABC at the time.
I used listen to them back then and some of the WABC packages sound familiar.April 7, 2012 at 10:19 am #83423Tracy CarmanMemberHow DO you pick a logo?
KEED – PAMS Logo Examples (mono) by tcarmanApril 7, 2012 at 10:34 am #83424Tracy CarmanMemberCould these folks sing or what?
Where Is Love (Acappella – From “Oliver”) – Sung by The PAMS Singers by tcarmanApril 7, 2012 at 6:06 pm #83432glenKEED was a station that was 40 miles from where I live here in Oregon.
They also had Country Music Radio from TM later on.April 18, 2012 at 9:57 pm #83734Tracy CarmanMemberThe kids are on vacation… and I’m recovering from having my gallbladder out… so… I might as well play around with multitracks. The following is a remix from the promotional album “Dynamic Denton” produced in the mid-sixties by Joseph “Jodie” Lyons from the original 4-track master.
Jodie Lyons – Dynamic Denton “Band shell” – STEREO Remix by user7465766April 19, 2012 at 10:35 am #83742Tracy CarmanMemberI always liked listening to WNBC during the early seventies. As a pre-teen, I liked the classic jingles which TM produced for them. Here’s the “sing along” city cut backing track from Free Design, remixed from the 4-track working master w/the embedded vocal.
TM Productions “Free Design” Rinky Tink Piano cut (1972) by ID JinglesApril 19, 2012 at 11:41 am #83744LenGroatLove the ‘Free Design’ cut TC !
I can still ‘hear’ it for … “KDKA Pittsburgh, we’ve havin’ Fun at Te-enn Twen-Tee..” and I cannot have ACTUALLY heard it for 15 years !
THAT is why these things work.. as WE know, but many others who run radio today, sadly don’t…
April 19, 2012 at 2:20 pm #83745tomobieWhen I was Producer/Director at WNBC, in the late 60’s-early 70’s, this is actually the cut we used to promote New York City. It started as an on-contest. We played the full :30 vocal for about a month, so listeners could remember & memorize the lyrics. Then when the contest started, the engineer would play this cut (with the audio down about -12 to –15 dB) and the listener would try & sing along with the jingle. Big Wilson & Ted Brown were usually the 2 disc jockeys who ran the contest. Program Director Pat Whitley & General Manager Perry Bascom had many meetings to discuss the logistics how to properly run & execute this contest.
TM ~ WNBC ~ This is the City ~ Contest Version
As Pat Whitley tell it…the gentlemen from the Dallas Symphony originally refused (almost walked out of the session) when asked by Jim Long & Pat to play off-key.
Here are the other 2 cuts

April 19, 2012 at 5:33 pm #83750TServo2049Actually, the cut is from Design ’72; Free Design was the original “Design” package from 1969, the one that was piloted with the Singers Unlimited vocals.

You’re correct. I stand corrected. I have all three multi-track transfers on the same hard drive and didn’t pay that close attention to it, Jeff (it was 5am).

Anytime. They happened to conveniently be at my fingertips.

Regal Studios – Tom Merriman – Introduction Demo (1994) by MPF – Tom Merriman ArchivesJune 7, 2013 at 8:56 am #90381IainJohnstonAh-ha! Thanks TC, THAT solves another “minor jingle mystery” for me…
“Sydney’s Best Mix, of the … Mix106.5”.I have an aircheck cassette and other stuff sent to me mid-1990s from Sydney Australia by 2UW, and they simply said their jingles on their new (then) FM station were by “Regal Studios of Dallas” who I’d never heard of.
And to be honest, haven’t heard much about since!
I take it Tom Merriman’s re-entry attempt into a then increasingly competitive and starting-to-consolidate jingle/radio market in the USA etc wasn’t as successfull as he might have hoped, especially as I detect a slight “dig” in there (“melody”, “style” etc) at the perhaps-more-urban-style of product from the merged successor to his former company?
June 7, 2013 at 5:34 pm #90386IainJohnstonThanks for the info ACD
Who exactly were Patrick and Turner? Business/admin perhaps rather than the creative side of things?
June 7, 2013 at 7:36 pm #90387Tracy CarmanMember“Sydney’s Best Mix, of the … Mix106.5”
That’s a 2UW custom. I’ve only come upon reference DATs for a few other stations syndicated versions, so far.
Oh… and Pat Hogan and Don Turner.
June 7, 2013 at 9:13 pm #90388IainJohnstonThanks TC
The station (2WFM, as 2UW renamed in 4-character call configuration on migration to FM) didn’t give me the cuts in-the-clear, just an aircheck (and a promotional CD of their typical playlist material, and a lot of stickers and even beermats! Well, it WAS OZ!)June 7, 2013 at 10:44 pm #90389BigdaveI’m sure a number of those MPT cuts then end up on a Ben Freedman demo called Maximum Imaging. Have a listen and see if you can spot them..

Also a resing of their KIIS FM package ended up on TFM back in the mid ’90’s.
June 8, 2013 at 3:47 am #90390Tracy CarmanMemberFrom Don Worsham’s “The Hits Between The Hits: The History of ID Jingles” published by Media Preservation Foundation Press:
“…also had an agreement with Tom Merriman to market his custom jingles produced at Regal Studios. That gave Ben Freedman the latitude to sell the resings on the Merriman customs as well as creative input to how some of the cuts would be structured. The first work done under this agreement was the Merriman created “Maximum Imaging”. This package used custom jingles originally created for WRAL Raleigh and WWMX Baltimore.”
