David,
Eventually I'll get around to getting the clearance to release those materials. Right now I've got to finish up the CRC box set for release… as it's been ready for production for a couple of months… and also have a couple of other TM selections ready for release.
Also I need to follow up on the TM Reference tapes. Almost all of the analog reference masters are done. I think I posted through #291 online. We're up to disc #472… so there's a lot of data entry to be done.

August 14, 2006 at 2:37 pm #21924BarrasThanks TC, IMHO I think the Kershaw-West stuff would “sell” very well as a box-set. There`s quite a few examples of their material on Jingle Mad from you and me and it always seems to go down well with fellow Jingle Madders.
Must admit, I`ve only just recently starting listening to CRC material and enjoying their sound. I`ve got the olde VISA card ready for the CRC box set.

February 17, 2007 at 1:38 pm #29014SpartacusDo you have any 1970s-era WIBC jingles?
April 11, 2007 at 2:18 pm #29693tvnutboyLovin' the K104 “Hot Kiis” Cuts, sounds exactly like the ones I grew up with in Poughkeepsie. If you have any K104 cuts with a “Warp Factor” flavor, I'm all ears!
May 20, 2007 at 3:46 pm #30326topcatIt's been a long time since I've added to this thread…..
What if the jingle singers sang contemporary songs? I've already posted examples of the singers doing Christmas tunes. But how 'bout the TM Singers (circa early/mid-seventies) doing contemporary songs. To me it sounds like muzak… but what do you think? Here's a five minute sample to gauge by……

May 21, 2007 at 6:23 pm #30349martinlesterMemberHi Tracy
I know it's not everyone's cup of Tea but I never get fed up of the Dallas sound !
in fact if you bought it out on CD I would buy it !
Where / How did this come about ?
May 21, 2007 at 10:29 pm #30353topcatMartin,
The cuts were in some things that I was archiving. These are obviously edits of a longer version that I have.
I would never take the time and expense to license the songs for commercial release.
I'm not sure of the songs' origin. I do have a multi-track or two labeled “The McLendon Singers” which I believe these were likely culled from.
Glad you enjoyed them.

June 4, 2007 at 2:42 am #30599topcatI don't believe I've posted this before. Here are two accapella lifts from TM's multi-tracks for grins and chuckles. I took the time to mix 'em into stereo. Here's an opportunity to hear the voices behind the cuts, as these particular cuts usually weren't provided in this manner.

Enjoy!
PS >> A gold star goes to anyone who can correctly identify the packages/cuts these were lifted from.

http://www.radiojingles.co.nrJune 6, 2007 at 1:13 pm #30645topcatAs I'm sitting here boxing up CDs, I've come upon a case of discs from WPOP in Hartford. We had their original master reels in hand… and naturally we copied them all to CD.
Here are a few sample cuts from their version of TM's Phase III. Instead of including the normal sweeper cuts, I've included the DJ, ID and Weather cuts.
Enjoy those great TM voices…..

August 9, 2007 at 6:31 pm #31864TServo2049The WXYZ cut is, IIRC, from Design '72. The WCFL one is, of course, from Plays the Hits.
August 9, 2007 at 9:20 pm #31872topcatActually, the WXYZ cut is from Sound of Chicago.

August 11, 2007 at 10:35 am #31895topcatHere's the question of the morning…
What do you do when you're on the wrong end of the radio dial with low power and no budget for jingles?
Answer: Make nice-nice with your TM Productions sales representative and buy an acappella or two… get a copy of the pre-record reel for a jingle package… and do some clever cross fading and editing to “create” your jingle package. Sound far fetched? Could you possible put together your own package BEFORE the piece it together methods of Ben Freedman??
Here is the result… a few cuts of the “final product” as aired here in West Springfield on WTXL in the early seventies.

Enjoy… and comment!

Ouch! definately taking the concepts of “Phase II”
to their logical conclusion TC! (yes I know, that those
pre-records were probably Phase III!)Just as well that WTXL didn't apparently get hold of any
of the non-call-letter acapellas that other stations would
get in their “mix-and-match” TM bundles (as in the huge
WCOL Columbus Phase II set from circa 1970?)August 12, 2007 at 10:48 am #31919topcatThe package is actually SHOCKWAVE with all of those lovely electronic sound efx.
August 12, 2007 at 11:28 pm #31949TServo2049It sounds like W*E*XL. Looks like they weren't that successful…
I heard that WGNG in…Providence?…ordered some jingles from a Dallas company back in the 70s, and they came back sounding like “WDND,” so someone had to record a “G” sound and drop it in to make it sound like “WGNG.”
August 19, 2007 at 12:21 am #32112topcatHere's a classic goodie from the Julian Breen Collection, maintained by Media Preservation Foundation. To learn more about Julian, feel free to google him.
Anyway… Here's a JAM Logo Audition for WPEN Philadelphia… from the master reel. Comments are always welcome!

August 22, 2007 at 2:55 pm #32202topcatWhen I was just a young teen, the shift started to be made from AM to FM as far as rock and roll stations. The first one in the Springfield market was WAQY/FM — known as Wacky One Oh Two. The FM'er was the first in the cluster for what would become the national chain, Wilks-Schwartz Broadcasting. When they went Rock 'n Roll in 1972, they utilized a “custom” package produced by Shaggy Dog Productions. I believe the group's name that sung the jingles was Shanandoah… but I could be wrong. Rumor has it the package cost two hundred bucks and a case of scotch. (laughing)
The jingles were used on the station, which was automated 24/7. In addition, the cuts were later resung for WRQN — their sister station that was also automated.
http://www.jingles.org/WAQY.mp3
In addition to having WAQY, Wilks-Schwartz also operated an AM'er – WTYM in East Longmeadow. The daytimer was originally a country station, I believe… but by the time I came along, they were playing “beautiful music”. There were only two acappellas on cart by the time I arrived on the scene. However, I was able to dub their full jingle package… which was produced by Tom Merriman. All these years, we assumed it was a Pepper-Tanner production, but I finally found the demo for the acappellas (though WTYM's full package has full length cuts and pre-records) in the TM archives.

I thought we were talking about Shaggy Dog, not Groove Addicts…
The WAQY jingles are probably the worst I've heard in a longtime. The vocals are weak and lifeless.

Thanks very much for sharing that TC. Being offered a choice of logo is brilliant! Just shows how much love and care goes into a jingle when Jon Wolfert is doing it.
August 25, 2007 at 3:02 pm #32257topcatHere's a quick sampler of PAMS jingles from the archives……

September 26, 2007 at 3:17 am #33338topcatAs I sit here, trying to cascade several hard drives and trash the computers they were attached to… I've come upon a sub-directory of various DAT tapes I transferred years ago.
So… since I'm playing around, I've created a mini-PAMS sampler. One note… once upon a time I discussed the “grid” concept of jingles. I've thrown in three cuts of WLOF's grid with all the pots wide open where the call letters and frequency are sung. It should be a good demonstration piece.
Enjoy!
