I had been under the assumption WDRR-FM, a classic hits station in Augusta, GA was using the same jingle package WOGL in Philadelphia last used from ReelWorld. Upon listening more closely, while almost identical, I notice differences slightly, with the guitar at the beginning and the sound effects right before the city sing. I believe this was called the K-Hits package, how many different variations were there? I’m not sure that I’m a fan of how “BOB FM” is sung on the WDRR one. Here are some examples:
WOGL:

WDRR:

(Bonus WDRR cut I grabbed, I think this is from a different package): https://youtube.com/shorts/LFSBGK84WuM?feature=shareThen we have WRIT, which almost sounds like a combination of the two above?

IMO, WOGL was sung the best – I thought the harmony RW has for “WOGL” worked well. I’m just trying to figure out how many variations of this package there must have been.

Too much happening over the WOGL cut to be really sure.August 30, 2022 at 6:21 pm #107981firetypecinderaceMemberThey’re all in the same package, all cuts, including the bonus WDRR cut. It’s just that WOGL had a different melody than the rest
WOGL is not the originating station for that RW package. It was orignally used for its sister station in Chicago, 104.3 K-Hits, now 104.3 JAMZ.
August 30, 2022 at 6:22 pm #107982firetypecinderaceMemberWOGL had that logo since the 2000s, before the RW cuts.
August 31, 2022 at 4:19 pm #107987clj2MemberAuthorThanks guys! Makes perfect sense that they customized that for WOGL. I always loved the logo incorporated for WOGL.
I loved the last package WOGL had before RW in the early 2010s. The RW jingles worked well – I much prefer this RW package in question to the one designed around the same time for CBS-FM, well mainly the TOH cut. Funny that the jingle package for WJMK got a lot more mileage than WJMK did itself!
Too bad jingles have been abolished from all but a few Audacy classic hits stations – WCBS, WOLX, WOMC, WOCL, and KEYN – all which are using the CBS-FM RW package except for OMC. WIAD in DC occasionally uses those TM re-sings but rarely. Cumulus and iHeart do still use them on classic hits fortunately, and Audacy still does, just not really on classic hits like other formats such as AC and CHR.
August 31, 2022 at 5:57 pm #107988firetypecinderaceMemberMost of the iHeart classic hits stations have a customized jingle package that is still not in the website. There a couple montages of it on Soundcloud.
August 31, 2022 at 7:22 pm #107989clj2MemberAuthorIt seems like a love/hate opinion, but I personally like what iHeart did with the 2007 KIIS package on KOSF in San Francisco. It oddly fits the format IMO.
I’m not sure how many classic hits stations in large markets still use anything other than ReelWorld – I think Cumulus may use TM on some stations?
August 31, 2022 at 9:41 pm #107990mjb1124MemberSeveral of the former CBS stations had the K-Hits jingles customized to fit their logos – namely WCBS-FM, WOCL (Sunny FM), WOMC, KLUV, and the aforementioned WOGL. But all the other stations I’ve heard the package on just used the original K-Hits logo, even though one of the alternate logos would have fit the station name better in a lot of those cases.
Cumulus does use TM jingles on a number of Classic Hits stations. The largest one is WGRR in Cincinnati (Market #28).
September 1, 2022 at 7:06 pm #107991TigerQ105MemberI understand there was a massive divide towards RW when it comes to classic hits jingles, but personally, I think the K-Hits package hits different with the custom logos. The WCBS 2018 package, however… seems to fit more as an AC package. I think, classic-leaning or rock-leaning AC, like what the Alice/WLOL package once did. It’s still a classic hits package, but I think I find it more versatile as a Classic Hits/AC hybrid package.

This really does fit a decade-focused station. I’ve even heard Regina’s Play 92 used the Z100 2000 package, which also fits that kind of 90’s focused station.

Play 107 Edmonton also has that Z100 package as well, including their short time as Power 107.

I’m not a fan of that CBS-FM 2018 package. The TOH jingle is really irritating IMO – it sounds very downbeat and uninteresting compared to the 2016 K-Hits one. Unless things change, I’m guessing CBS-FM 2018 will be the last classic hits package we see created for Audacy.
Does WOMC still use that K-Hits package? I hear shotguns when I’ve listened occasionally, but haven’t really been able to tell.
It seems like KLUV got a package from ReelWorld several years ago and barely used it then trashed it.

I’m not in the US so I wasn’t able to listen to either of those stations on Audacy.
September 3, 2022 at 1:56 pm #108000mjb1124MemberI know KLUV debuted the Reelworld K-Hits package after Christmas 2017, and it lasted at least into early 2019. Most likely it was dropped in April 2019 when they changed their (non-sonic) logo and introduced the “Nobody Plays More ’80s” slogan.
September 4, 2022 at 2:46 pm #108007clj2MemberAuthorI’m surprised the K-Hits package never made it to KRTH, but they haven’t used jingles in over a decade to my knowledge. They literally could have swapped “K-Hits” out with “K-Earth.” But KRTH and their success seems to have been influential on a lot of Audacy’s classic hits stations and thus lack of jingles in the past few years.
October 30, 2022 at 7:12 pm #102411WalkerbroadcastingLove Paul Dickson’s voice on the WOGL legal id. I worked for a country station thats been using him for years.. and when id send him copy for a contest promo or station event, and tell him the mood i was after, the mental image i wanted and what kind of sound affects or background music i wanted.. i got back something 100x better than what i imagined.. every time.
