GW is right – there were several “mixes” / variants of the “main” song – a very rare thing in those days…

The last cut isn’t really a variant on the main cut per se – but those strings are still spine-tingling 40-odd years on :^)

Don’t think the Swingle Singers / Blue Mink cuts would go down too well today with what the station is now
      (“UK tax compliant…Channel Islands..offshore… ” etc etc)

The “hip” LBC 1974 instrumentals I’ve only ever heard in airchecks – don’t know who made those Graham?
They sounded damn good after the “ITN Big Ben bing-bong” 1973 launch stuff!

Not sure why there is a reference to EMIson in your file name Iain ? EMIson did not produce anything for Capital Radio back in the day. All the cuts in your sequence are from Blue Mink with the LSO – that’s why the strings are so good ! The LBC Nightline theme was part of the 1974 Jeff Wayne Music package. Jeff produced all their imaging from 74-80 inclusive. The 73 launch package (just 5-cuts) was by Robert Farnon.

Hmmm! Have I had that totally wrong for 40+ years?!?! Ah well! Never mind!
“history” up here then at least was that the Capital Blue Mink based package was produced/recorded at EMI’s studios…

Implication is therefore that the first ever UK (ignore overseas) custom by EmiSON as a distinct entity was therefore for Clyde.

Intriquing that the 1st LBC Wayne package was 1974 – thats before he produced the WOTW concept album!

The Capital Radio launch package orchestral sessions were recorded at EMI Abbey Road no less with a certain George Martin producing ! The slogan ‘ Isn’t it good to know Capital Radio’ was penned on a paper napkin at the Hard Rock CafĂ© on Piccadilly by Dave Cash.

Jeff Wayne’s War of The Worlds album wasn’t released until 1978.

In 1973 before the LBC jingles, Jeff Wayne was busy producing hit singles for David Essex with Rock On (UK & USA hit single) and Lamplight on CBS Records! ;-)
