Apologies if there is already a thread but thought it would be nice to have a thread without taking about our online stations or individual companies merits
Just post those nice long station themes that didn’t get played very often.I saw the Sunset theme and thought it sounded like a fun idea………………
Here’s one to start it off
ASAP Music – Orchard FM – Launch Package – UK

October 25, 2015 at 1:20 pm #98756IainJohnstonOK Michael – nice idea!
I’m sure the following have been heard before (…often…) but here’s a contribution of the earliest ones from Sub-Tropical Scotland…
Radio Clyde, Glasgow & West Central Scotland – EmiSON – custom launch package 1973

Radio Forth, Edinburgh & East Central Scotland – EmiSON – custom launch package 1975

October 25, 2015 at 3:22 pm #98757IainJohnstonNorthSound Radio, Aberdeen – Highland Studios – custom launch package 1980 – opening broadcast …er… opener…
https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles/ij-highlandstudios-northsound-1980-openingtheme
NorthSound used a studio in Inverness which morphed into the “SoundHouse” at Radio Forth in Edinburgh as as “in-house” jingle producer for Forth-associatesd stations and others – often the creator of some very-dodgy-Copyright-wise material (e.g. blatant rip-offs of JAM and others) but occasionally some excellently sung, instrumented & produced jingles.
The following is “something very different”. Westsound started with some custom stuff that might or might not be associated with AJ as in AJ Productions, who certainly at one stage did them a good package but which for some bizarre reason appeared (on-air at least) to have ZERO reverb on the vocals even though the tracks had seemingly conventional reverb levels applied.
I know that this original package is “out there” somewhere; “Mystical Waters” (Ayr is on the mainland, with Arran a few miles away over the estuary) carries the “two-nine-oh” logo/melody of the medium wave (AM) wavelength and certainly played at closedown each evening (7pm I think originally?).
Westsound Radio, Ayrshire & the Isle of Arran – unknown (?) producer – custom launch package night-time closedown – “Mystical Waters”
https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles/ij-unknown-westsound-mysticalwaters-1981-closedowntheme
If AJ (in New York) himself or anyone else can “fill in” the true story of the Westsound package(s), I’d be intriqued to hear it!

So several questions why create a jingle package that only mentions the station name on three cuts – why make this jingle package – even in 1974 it must have sounded like outdated crap

Another woefully badly judged jingle package – actually a woefully badly judged station which bombed
Only station to ever have Alan Partridge as its station voice

The vocalist sounds like Sheena Easton.

I love this theme.
There was a few variations/lengths – some with different endings from what I remember played on air – usually used to fill to the news at the top of the hour.October 25, 2015 at 8:43 pm #98768IainJohnstonDrat! mb you beat me to it with the BRMB – I’d added the instrumental version… :^)
Still – this kind of audio indeed doesn’t all have to be “vocals” versions – some very BIG cuts are instrumentals…

October 25, 2015 at 11:11 pm #98769LenGroatWhat a lot of ‘songs’!
MB: “why create a jingle package that only mentions the station name on three cuts – why make this jingle package – even in 1974 it must have sounded like outdated crap”
I think a lot of us in ILR in the 70s would have agreed with you!
We now view the early days through rose-tinted glasses but quite a few of the early managers were either from the BBC or had NO radio experience as such. It was only when dj’s started ‘moving up’ into decision making positions we got to the ‘better’ bits of ILR people now remember. With the BBC having an exclusive on US jingles (thanks to the MU who ‘fixed’ that even before the first licence was allocated) ILR indeed had a motley selection of jingles.
I was fortunate in that when Metro almost went bust in 1974 and needed new jingles in a hurry the ‘producer’ in charge was someone who joined after 14 years producing Andy Pandy on TV (TRUE!) and that was why he said to me, ‘Ere, you know about these things, you do it’ ! Result = ILR’s first ever PAMS package! And the 13 KOL ‘Solid Rock 2’ song hit the Newcastle airwaves just 3 weeks later….!

October 26, 2015 at 9:53 am #98773IainJohnstonSome stations liked their “station song” so much they had it completely re-recorded each time they ordered a new custom…

County Sound – from the original Les Reed composition through Alfasound to the “Dallas session” with one of several “takes” of the “laid back, jazz club vocal interpretation (?)” by legendary Trella Hart (…”shunshine” ???!!!)
October 26, 2015 at 9:56 am #98774RobinBlamiresLes Reed. Sounds a little different from the guy from Velvet Underground.
October 26, 2015 at 10:05 am #98775IainJohnstonThank you Robin! my spelling error now corrected!
Mind you, if LOU Reed had written jingles….and apparently the bass guitarist from Walk On The Wild Side allegedly wrote the soppy Christmas 1970-something song “Grandad”… :^)
October 26, 2015 at 10:54 am #98777RobinBlamiresThat’s true! Herbie Flowers was on a documentary about it on Radio 1’s 30th birthday. Best not get too caught up in that on this thread.

Jonno, if we ever all got daft enough, there could be “spin-off” threads from this one for long cuts for…
sport, weather, travel, summer, autumn, winter, spring, days-of-the-week, flying-eyes, whats-happenings….
and all the other things that USED to have long beds and/or specific cuts……things that stations “don’t do” anymore… (sadly…)

I remember hearing a very short part of that jingle on the BBC radio documentary “The Story of Pop Radio” but from a different mix:
