Closest guy you can get now is Redd Pepper…

        http://www.speak.ltd.uk/boys.html#

His story on how he got spotted was fantastic – he was a tube driver in London when a v/o agent heard him doing the announcements whilst at Leicester Square….and the rest is history.

Other deep voiced Americans include John Wells and Paul Turner,if you want to give them a try.

Thank you very much. You saved my day. I need a strong powerful deep evil voice for my new radio station.

You are correct… Redd and Diana Luke were the station voices before the take-over, and for a few months afterwards as well.

                Diana Luke ….

A great American Voice that should be on more British Stations – me and Chris can remember her from Real & BBC Radio Leeds, where’s she currently on air

I must agree the combination of Diana Luke and Red gave JAZZ FM a unique sound something that would still sound perfect on what is now Smooth FM ,

But of course GMC would rather stick with the same voice thats been heard on every station for the last 10 Years (Mitch Johnson)

Lets face it why have a Unique Sound when as Smooth FM would say you can ” Go With the Flow” and cone the same sound that dozens of sations already have ! 😈

For my money, one of the most under-rated V/Os at the moment is Marc Silk.

I met Mark when he was an up and coming DJ/Producer/VO at Mercia some 14 years ago.

He did the V/Os for Centre and can currently be heard on BBC C&W as well as Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

I doubt for a moment that Martin and I will agree on who the right voices are for Jazz/Smooth FM, but that’s cool cos it’s all about differing opinions.

Redd and Diana both have utterly superb voices, and it was such a pleasure working with Diana at Real Radio, but the decision wasn’t about personalities. Smooth FM is positioning itself as a mainstream station, whereas Jazz FM was traditionally a specilist station. As such, it wanted a mainstream station sound. Mitch and Emma fit that nicely. Believe it or not, it wasn’t just cos we were using them on Real! In fact I demo’d lots of voices before Smooth launched in the North West.

Anyway, such is life etc etc

well I do agree that both Redd and Diana have Superb Voices 😆

however The problem was that Mitch Voice was already heard on Heart 106.2 for almost 2 Years in London

Within a few weeks of Heart dropping him

                        Jazz started using him
                        😡

Lets face it the same Voice on that had already been heard not just on Heart but other stations in same tsa and after 2 Years of his voice , I am sure GMC could have found someone that was not so over used !

                        I still think Red with

                        “106 .2 SMOOOTH FM”

                        would sound COOL 8) 8)

                        Spoons

And Diana would probably want her accent to be known as Canadian 😉

Doh! Of course,Spoons – she’s Canadian – and after all those years of listening to her on Viking and the Superstation too…. 😳

Can I get away with saying NORTH American, then?

Here is some more info on Diana

Diana Luke: Diana is a Canadian who has been living in Britain for over 25 years. However, she is frequently asked whether she is on holiday, what part of the United States she is from, whether she is Irish and is also regularly admired for her accent. She thinks that some of her ancestors from County Cork join her when she has a drink because the Irish intonation seems to be more prevalent then.

Her eclectic career began in health when she studied Nursing but left when she realised that bed pans and injections were considered more important than saying “How ya doin?'” She then went to train as a Health and Fitness Adviser, then left for England. She worked in Adult Education as a Lecturer in Health Education and also ran groups and saw patients in three general practices. Her innovative work was filmed for Channel Four’s Wellbeing Series and on Yorkshire TV.

Her first acting role came in a BBC2 programme where she played a TV show host. Then came the lucky fluke of being in the right place at the right time. She was asked to take part in a ’round table’ discussion on ‘love and sex’ at Hallam FM – her provocative statements got her her first radio job at Viking Radio in Hull as their first female presenter.

Her career than took her down to London for many new beginnings including work at the BBC and Jazz FM. She has now come full circle for “quality of life” back to Sheffield. A few years ago, she trained as a professional Hypno-Psychotherapist and works with clients on self-confidence issues, relationship problems, stress management etc. She also does Tarot readings for private clients and even managed an evening of Tarot for up to 200 people in London.

She is the mother of four grown up children who are great friends and lives with her youngest daughter, her radio star dog Brandy and Tia, her cat. In her spare time, she enjoys walking in the beautiful countryside surrounding Sheffield, visiting country pubs, reading a good novel or a self-awareness book, chatting with friends and listening to music – loudly! She has begun writing two novels and hopes to finish them one day!

For those in the know, she is a Cancerian Water Snake with a Life Path of 4!

                              Diana’s Voice Experience includes:

Radio Imaging for Jazz FM & The Wolf (Wolverhampton).
Corporate Videos for Royal Mail, Nisa & Roland Pianos.
Inflight Programmes for Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Continental, Sri Lankan, Emirates, Air 200 and Air New Zealand.
A variety of commercials across Britain including Jazz, Signal, Viking, Lincs & Kix 96.

I guess I was only young at the time, but wasn’t Diana Luke actually the second female presenter on Viking Radio? I know she was the first regular, but her first air shifts came on a sunday evening after 7pm I seem to remember, and int he two weeks before she started there was a woman called “Gail Fryer” on…. maybe I am imagining it, after all I was only 12!
