As young Mr Barras has mentioned , the “New York 97” song by JAM , plus their resing of “Still The One” for the NBC Network both clock in around 3’30 . The opener by Music4 for Chris Moyles was over 5 minutes long too.
Back in the 70’s,Radio Hallam had a number of jingles which were mixed to 60 and 90 seconds respectively – used normally when there was a technical problem or when a certain jock with the initials RM arrived, having enjoyed a tincture or 2 in the nearby Dove & Rainbow pub,and needed the best part of 2 gallons of industrial strength Hallam Coffee to sober him up!

I’ve also forgot the “Yours Truly” package from JAM which included a number of Imaging Songs, including those resung for Pirate FM and The Eagle.
Star 106.6 also had a station song which was originally done for WROR. Radio Wyvern had their launch song too, which was released as a 7″ single – that’s the best part of 3mins long ….
And I nearly forgot the Hallam Launch Song…
“Whether you live in Sheffield or on the Yorkshire Moors,
You can be sure that we are yours,
Any time….And if you live in Rotherham or on the River Don,
As far as we’re concerned you’re number one,
All the time…The sound of music fills the air across the meadows, dales and hills,
And suddenly the world’s a finer place to be alive in….
All because you’re tuned to Radio Hallam
(Brass play “Ikley Moor Bah T’at!”)
Ste-re-o!!!!!!”April 28, 2006 at 12:39 pm #20530Barras

Glad you mentioned the WROR “Happy Birthday Boston” song Mr. N, one of my favourite radio ID songs of all-time. You can hear that JAM cut by going to Page 5 of Barras Montages – scroll down the page for the download, here`s the link…

I believe a certain Mr Moran rang RMs house too on one occasion.Receiving GBH of the earhole in the process. All on air.

TMs Freedom package has a couple of cuts that definately qualify. You might as well call them songs.April 29, 2006 at 1:46 am #20538coolnt
YOurs truly package from Jam did have the lengthy imaging songs in there. But how about a top of hour.
Here in the Philippines, Y96 then had the longest TOH jingle, thats a sung jingle, no VOs, no live talks, pure jingle, with lyrics that include programs from sign on to sign off. and it has the Y96 logo sung everywhere on the two and a half minute cut. imagine doing a top of hour that long.TOH usually are short and quick! here in our place.
fortunately for Y96 they didnt lose their listeners, unfortunately i have no audio.

MemberTalking of long ones, I also like the endless and utterly mindless “King of Diamonds” cut produced by ReelWorld. Bob Dinan featured it in his jingle podcast some months ago:

that cut was taken from the KISS Seattle 04 package, that would be really long since it’s the kiss club calendar ID.
but reelworld hasn’t really produced lengthy jingles yet, haven’t they?

Dunno what you guys think but I reckon davew is right…I`ve been listening to some “long” sung jingles and none of them equal or pass the duration of the Chris Moyles breakfast show launch jingle in January 2004.
I reckon that`s the longest jingle of all time but size doesn`t matter…(boom ! boom ! 😆 )

Where do you guys find this stuff? I’m glad you like it. One of my early JAM ditties, 1980…one I actually wrote the words to as well (that didn’t happen very often-Jon was the house lyricist). I also remember it was done in a big hurry-I think it was 48 hours from conception to completion. Also one of my first Berko projects. A 7-voice vocal with Jackie-Judy-Libba-Chris-Me-Dan-Jim. A fast one-I was still new at this and had written 70 seconds of lyrics for a :60- the solution: make it faster.

It’s a great cut – superb music AND lyrics. How long would it take you to write something like that?

Thanks, my mother liked it too (seriously, she lived in Boston at the time, it’s one of the only things out of the thousands I’ve done she ever actually heard on the air). Time invested? Probably a few hours to write the lyrics-get them approved, then another couple hours to write the tune-another few hours to score the horns-strings-vocals. Normally that process would be spread over several days, interspersed with other projects, but in the case of Jubilee 350, it was all done in a concentrated block of time.

I remember hearing the WROR jingle for the first time in a JAM demo called Image Songs, this was about 20 years ago and never knew you actually wrote the jingle Bruce, untill now.
Thanks for taking the time to reply and post on Jingle Mad and just out of curiosity, have you heard the version of your jingle for the UK radio station called Star FM ?
If not, here it is…

No, I’d never heard that version-thanks for posting it for me. A Bruce-less vocal for sure-when was it done?
I’ve also never heard the JAM ‘Image Songs’ demo, I’m sure a few of mine ended up on there. Does anyone have that posted? I’d be curious to hear how many of those I’d forgotten I’d ever written…

you might know the `Image Songs` demo/package as `Windy Songs”. This is how it`s listed on the JAM website.
“Windy Songs WNDE Indianapolis, IN 1979”
The cassette-tape I was sent in the early 1980s actually has “Image Songs” printed on the cassette cover, I guess Mr Wolfert must have subsequently changed the title.
Let us know please, if any more of these jingle songs are from you…thanks.

The two Z-93 songs and the WROR Jubilee 350 are mine. I also remember doing the WROR resing of the WAKY song (always a favorite of mine, written by Dave Zoller), which normally had an LA vocal on it (the Dallas version you hear is Abby-Kay-Me-Clark-Dan). If anyone’s interested, the vocal credits on the Z-93 songs are:
Slow one: Abby (solo) w/Abby-Me (backups)
Faster one: Mike Collier (solo) w/Chris-Me-Mike (backups)Abby and I used to do a lot of intricate, jazz type vocals together (like Singers Unlimited). As a matter of fact, Zuza, the Brazillian client we always loved working for (from Radio Jovem Pan) called us ‘Singers Limited’. I always liked that. If I get a chance I’ll try to dig up some ‘Singers Limited’ stuff and post it.

I`m just a JAM pushover Bruce but I love ALL those songs in the Images Songs demo !
Must have been a great feeling for the dj`s/announcers of those stations at that time, to play such superb, jingle songs on-the-air.
BTW to answer your query from the other post, I believe the Star FM jingle song was played out on-air in 1995.
You also mentioned Singers Unlimited – I`ve got a CD of their jingle work and songs they have recorded over the years, for anyone not familiar with Singers Unlimited, here`s a jingle they did for MPS.

Singers Unlimited (based out of Chicago with Bonnie Herman on lead vocals) was also the group that sang on TM’s Free Design (also known as the WDAF/WDAK custom). Most of the syndicated versions featured Dallas vocals.

They were a glorious sounding group, supremely talented and nice people to boot. Bonnie was in the first Chicago group I ever sang with (shortly after moving there in 1985-three weeks after completing the Jam Song and leaving Dallas). With the exception of a reunion for a Glorai Estefan project in the early 1990’s, the last time they recorded together as a group was on ‘Acapella-3’ in 1979. Gene moved to San Francisco around that time, Don moved to LA the same year I moved to Phoenix, and Len moved to Santa Fe, but unfortunately is no longer with us (for US Jingle Madders, Len was the famous ‘ho-ho-ho’ voice of the Jolly Green Giant).
Tracey, I know I’ve told you this story, but if anyone out there has a copy of this I would be grateful for one: I wrote and produced a handful of KABL acapellas for Hugh Heller in 1987-the group was Bonnie, Don and myself, multiple-tracked in SU style. They were recorded at Chicago’s Universal studio-B, the same room that the SU Christmas album was done in 1969 (contrary to the liner notes, the entire record was done in Chicago, the standard carols were originally bankrolled, recorded and distributed as a seasonal ‘thank you’ to all the ad agency creatives whose vocal work had made them millionaires-the more complex numbers were recorded after signing with MPS Records). Anyway, the acapellas were then dropped over cable car sound effects recorded by Hugh himself with his Nagra. These are probably rarer than most anything else out there-I don’t even know if they made it to air. Sure was fun singing with those guys though.
