Ouch! another good reason for never letting out the “raw” un-blended single vocal mixes!
Over 40+ years ago, a much-younger IJ received a 7.5 IPS tape from KYW – with some excellent “blooper” out-takes of their news output, including a most-unfortunate news anchor attempting to hand over to a conference reporter “in the Windy City of Chicago”
– innocent enough – until “Spoonerism” set in….
But the 1940’s Jingles are good (Must be the earliest I’ve ever heard)
Also the Song’s aren’t bad either (better than some of the Squeel and Reeks produced nowadays)
My personal favorites are the 1976 and 1978 jingles. Produced by Klein & (Bob Klein, also responsible for “Have a Happy Day”), possibly written by Tom Bahler (that was Bob’s guess when I asked him some years back), and featuring the vocal talents of the Ron Hicklin Singers.
I love the L.A. sound, it was so different from Dallas.
“Happy Day”
To this day I have the generic cuts 12″ LP, courtesy of KNBR San Francisco 40+ years ago.
But I’ve read over the years that actual “station call/name” cuts to accompany the HAHD generics were done by PAMS, and they never could quite match the LA vocal sound. Is that story accurate?
[apologies for “topic-jacking” but that’s how JM works :^) ]
