Here's a few new jingles recorded from the test stream for The Breeze, a new station launching soon on the former frequencies of Play Radio (Southampton/Winchester) and The Quay (Portsmouth). Sister station to The Coast.

      Anyone recognise the producer?

Hey nice job getting the jingles to hear :)

I'll take a stab ob Bespoke, but the Coast package was done by Music4.

I'd have gone for a more lush sound than than package if I wrre PC, but I'm not so hey ho!

Thanks for posting them Rob, I wasn`t even aware of this station…good to hear some of their jingles.

I have no idea who`s singing them, probably Music 4 but can I just say they have that Jingles Factory sound.

            Thanks for the info..

I normally have Play and the Quay on when I'm out and about in the Southampton/Portsmouth areas in the car. I guess it was only a matter of time that the three liceneses became a 'mini-group' station. The Quay, owned by the financially troubled Portsmouth FC was an asset just waiting for disposal, and I guess Play have struggled in the Soton/Winchester area where historically, local commercial radio always seems to have a hard time making a long term go of it.

Heres the news item on Radio Today..

I wish them luck with the format.. Not sure if it really appeals to me, but we'll see.

Once again Portsmouth will be left with no local station of its own (unless you count the community licencee Express FM), and with Play Radio going, it will be time to look for a new avatar!

I too listen in the car. When Lee Mousedale took the licence he told me that they would be playing a classic hit format and it seemed to work. He was not too pleased with the jingles and was going to go to Jam and get some like he did with Max FM, remember them Jonno great Jingles with Scott Mills doing the VO ( a friend of LEE's )but they got bought out before he could do anything. The station is now bland and plays the same as other stations. The breeze jingles do not set me alight so lets hope the music is better. They say they are targeting the over 40's the same market as Coast. Coast plays good AOR but has an annoying female vo after every record telling you that you are listening to the coast. Oh for the good ILR days.

This is a shame for 'local' radio in the area. Correct me if I'm wrong, but southern Hampshire will now be served solely by 'regional' stations (with the exception of Express FM in Portsmouth).

This is sad time for 'local' radio in the area, and also for the staff at both the Quay and Play. I fear that the Breeze will be a highly automated station delivered from the Coast studios building in Southampton.

The Quay has never been a stunning performing station but the football programmes throughout the week and the live match commentaries gave the station something that differentiated it and gave many people a reason to tune in. I read Celador are negotiating rights to continue the match coverage, but their overall station output of smooth music aimed at discerning more mature listeners (with a slight female bias) doesn't really reflect the typical Pompey supporter demographic and what is very much a working class city!! I guess they'll get the listeners for the matches, but won't retain them for normal programmes.

From what I heard and saw of Play, it looked like they got out and about in the City and at events in their area, just like old school local radio stations used to with a roadshow stage etc.. all credit to them for that, rather than hiding in anonymous studios behind a playout system.

The 'local' radio scene really has died, becoming themed music and no content. It offers nothing 'extra' to differentiate it from listening to CDs/mp3s which have the benefit of no annoying commercials.

I'll get off my soap box now, and wish the staff at the Quay and Play all the best for the future, whatever it holds.

I Think Jonno Said It all!
It would seem that we need regulators to regulate the regulators.
If a company cant make the license pay for itself they should give it back

Lot of debate about The Breeze and Celador generally can be found over at the Radio Forum on Digital Spy (UK).

As for these jingles, at least a lyric longer than 3 sylabuls (sp?), but yet more “Woah, Woah, Yeah, Yeah” and what a dreich dirge musically! As someone supposedly in the target age-group for such a station, I'd fall asleep listening to those!

Couldn't agree more – imaging to fall asleep to…

maybe it's a conspiracy to send the target demographic into a trance hoping they don't notice how much it doesn't fit with the music played or that the station has a lack of personality ;)

Today we said farewell to Quay Radio and Play Radio at midday.

I listened to Adrian Scott present the final programme on Play, it was a very low key affair and a very dignified way to bow out. I haven't heard the Quay's final few hours yet. (I recorded about the last 12 hours output of both stations).

Breeze are playing music and announcements now (since midday) until their live programmes launch at 6am tomorrow. I shall be recording it for 'historical' purposes only.

I have to say, the Breeze playlist sounds very much like the 'bland' music the IBA test transmissions carried before new ILRs were launched back in the day.
