I was listening to this on YouTube earlier and have two questions that are niggling me…….
1) This isn’t JAM is it ?!? (The vocals don’t sound as good as the version on the JAM Site)
2) Does anybody know who produced SKY Channel’s “We’re the One” Version of this back in the early 1990’s?

April 16, 2016 at 2:04 am #99846PKMemberWho ever produced either the ABC TV or SKY TV versions, they would have had to have had copyright clearance to use the song from the American band Orleans and the song publishers.
Still The One is as a song is 40 years old this year, I still remember my ex-colleague the late Mike Baker playing the Orleans single in the first few opening weeks of Beacon 303! In fact Mike and Beacon 303 were probably the first to play the song on British radio.

April 16, 2016 at 10:32 am #99849rakMemberThere’s some info on the JAM website http://www.jingles.com/jam/fans/bits.html – scroll down.
There are links to a few versions, inc WLS-TV http://www.jingles.com/audio/bits/STO-chi.mp3
April 16, 2016 at 3:02 pm #99854IainJohnston” Orleans…will … have had copyright clearance to use the song”
So that’ll be why they’re embargoed for Personal Cuts…dammit!
April 16, 2016 at 3:09 pm #99855PKMemberI never even thought of that when I made my comment Iain, by you’re probably right with yours I guess sadly
April 16, 2016 at 3:22 pm #99856IainJohnstonAye PK … still, they’re on the JAM website – in “slightly degraded quality” I note – I think that’ll be why.
(Although the version on Pete’s link is VERY good quality whoever un-earthed that!)“We’ve sung these … a million times…!”
https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles/jam-stilltheoneAt least Collector’s Personal cuts still let JAM do “crazy lyrics that rhyme with most anything” now & again!
April 16, 2016 at 3:24 pm #99857IainJohnstonIts just such a shame that UK ITV regional stations (when they still were…) were never “permitted” to have sung idents (except for one Christmas…circa 1974?) – who knows what could have been instead of them being “forced” to use toot-toot-toot “fanfare”-style stuff :^[

Ooh you’re taking me right off topic now Iain…….
ITV had that custom song they played after returning from a 75 day strike back in 1979Here it is….They certainly don’t write them like this anymore!!! )

I think we were “fortunate” to miss that one here north of the Border! :^) as STV and Grampian did their own continuity and idents back then (including a few howlers, but thats another story).
Back on ID jingles track then – that (ghastly) ITV effort actually sounds like a cross between “Supercar” and something vaguely familiar on a David Arnold custom for some ILR “down South” at that time – I think there’s something of it on a C&rl*n library CD? Must have a trawl around for that later.
April 16, 2016 at 5:59 pm #99863PKMemberAnyone remember the rather interesting (lol!) song that TSW opened with in it’s first few moments after Westward TV closed for the final time? Called “Television Simply Wonderful” I think it was written by Ed Welch?
April 16, 2016 at 6:03 pm #99864PKMemberIain, I think STV should finally have it’s own version of Welcome Back to ITV and Nicola Sturgeon should make it mandatory that it gets played every hour lol!
The ITV original reminds me of an old Radio West Bristol David Arnold instrumental bed?
April 16, 2016 at 6:13 pm #99865NickySMemberI have a feeling the Sky promo that Pete posted may have also been based on some of the Channel 9 Australia Still The One promos. The network used the line and song for decades. Just go to YouTube and you will find loads and loads of them … posted a couple below. But the Sky one is almost identical in style to the Nine ones from that time.

April 16, 2016 at 6:17 pm #99866UKJinglesMemberAuthorThanks Nicky…….More likely based on Australia’s version (If Murdoch is involved)
Anyway I must of had too much time on my hands today (Well can’t get out in the garden to do anything!)
Here’s the original ABC TV Promo that I’ve re-mixed with the stereo version of the fabulous JAM ABC Song……..
https://youtu.be/Dy_DCDJskQQIt’s just so catchy!!

That’s just reminded me of ITV’s Christmas sung idents from 1986 :-

The sung ID starts at about 0:30. Not exactly a vintage line up of shows for Boxing Day either!!!
