Glen, Ian…
I’ve a WAV dub of the CD here – I can setup a copy on Dropbox for either/both of you if you want it.
Not worried about a trade – I’m quite happy these days doing “donation” (say it with a French accent…)
to reliable Collectors :^)As Ian says, most (all?) of the tracks were on one of the Alfasound Collectors cassettes too – it was just at
that stage of them starting to do demo CDs more than cassette.July 21, 2015 at 11:48 pm #98114glenThanks Iian Ill take it.
I couldn’t find it on EBAYJuly 22, 2015 at 1:23 am #98115JAM / PAMSMemberDidn’t this jingle package win an award?

July 22, 2015 at 1:26 am #98116JAM / PAMSMemberWhat other versions are floating around out there?
NOT counting the ones sung in the UK by Alfasound, or in Holland by Top Format, there are 24 true-JAM versions for you to find. Have fun.
July 22, 2015 at 5:25 am #98119JAM / PAMSMemberJust to clarify… there are 24 JAM versions of cut #10. More stations than that got jingles from the package, they just didn’t all get the :60 song.

July 26, 2015 at 4:37 pm #98173SpoonsOK – so here’s the BBC Radio Lincolnshire version of SoNE Cut #10 from their rather excellent 1995 package – please excuse the rather crummy audio quality on this. The late Chris Jones sent me this audio on email almost five years ago. In fact, he also sent me the news in and the WABC song which Radio Lincolnshire had re-sung.
I had to dig back quite far through my emails to find this – so I thought I’d share all three cuts.
Chris was the man who put the lyrics to the jingles for Radio Lincolnshire for many years – including many station songs that the station had. I was lucky enough to work with Chris at Real Radio Yorkshire around 10 years ago before his untimely death a few years back. On the emails, he also shared a bit of jingle info with me which was fascinating… so I thought I’d also share it all with you.
First of all, Chris told me the thinking behind the commission of the 1995 news in:
“The brief for Alfasound was to compose a news intro with a 50 second talk over bed, a 6 second cushion for the pips and incorporate the existing jingle in a re-vamped form. The music to be urgent and complete enough to stand alone as a fill upto news. The concept was to brand with the sing at 50”, brand the BBC with the pips (this was the first time this had been done – many followed) and brand Radio Lincs again with the musical phrase lifted from the Lincolnshire Poacher folksong.”
For the WABC song, he told me this fascinating info about how it was originally composed. JMW may well be able to authenticate this story:
“Here is a real anorak fact. The clackerty clack rhythm was supposed to represent the New York subway with the drum bit representing going over points etc. Now that is the story from the man who wrote it! I found it on a mini disk with all that session’s jingles on it. It’s not brilliant as I copied it from the mastertape which was deteriorating with age. Music by Jam, Lyrics: CJ”
Finally, a bit of info about the Spirit of New England cut which we’re discussing in this thread:
“I did all the packages up to this one. They were centralised to a formula after that. I wonder if the attached is the one you are talking about. It originally appeared as the song in the ‘Spirit of New England’ package for WBZ Boston. Again very cheesy but I was asked to try and encapsulate a lot of what went on in Lincolnshire in a song. (We had this one and the other faster based one I sent earlier). I was quite pleased with it really and I think our lyrics fitted a little better. The singers did a really good job on it. I think the vocal harmony cushion around halfway through is brilliant!”
So, here comes the audio – again, apologies for the quality and the hum on it. As Chris explained, the master tape at the station was deteriorating when he made this dub.

July 26, 2015 at 8:27 pm #98174IanFMany thanks Spoons for uploading this. Great tracks and fair play to the Alfa singers for doing a fine job. Quite a contrast compared to Lincs FM ’95 (Sorry Duncan )
July 26, 2015 at 10:44 pm #98175jonnoMemberThanks Spoons – that news intro is awesome, and do I detect influence from Jean Michel Jarre’s Revolution Industrielle Part 2?

Love the other jingles too. I’ve never heard any of these before.
July 26, 2015 at 11:02 pm #98176star tetleyThanks Spoons – don’t apologise about the quality. Superb!
July 27, 2015 at 1:34 am #98177JAM / PAMSMemberFor the WABC song… The clackerty clack rhythm was supposed to represent the New York subway with the drum bit representing going over points etc. Now that is the story from the man who wrote it!
I wrote the lyrics and the music for the original WABC version of this cut, which is known as “Talk To Us” cut #11. The story about the “clackerty clack rhythm” is cute, but is total fiction. I don’t recall ever saying that to anyone.
I am proud of that jingle for several reasons. Besides the fact that it turned out well, it was a song for and about the station I grew up with, and it was the very first sound ever heard on WABC when it began its Talkradio format on May 10, 1982. The fact they had to make the change from music to talk was emotional and sad, but at least we got to be part of both eras. The cut also received some nice recognition from the industry: -jmw
July 27, 2015 at 2:39 am #98178glenI wonder who CJ was.
July 27, 2015 at 10:37 am #98179PKMemberGlen, CJ was the late Chris Jones from BBC Radio Lincolnshire who wrote the lyrics for their Alfasound UK sung version of the Spirit Of New England Cut 10 jingle.
July 28, 2015 at 4:43 am #98184glenYou know it’s interesting is that on some of the Alfa JAM remixes , at the end of the demo sometimes it says Alrasound o my
On others it’s Alfasound and JAM
What’s the difference?July 28, 2015 at 6:17 pm #98185SpoonsI wrote the lyrics and the music for the original WABC version of this cut, which is known as “Talk To Us” cut #11. The story about the “clackerty clack rhythm” is cute, but is total fiction. I don’t recall ever saying that to anyone.

Ha – that’s a shame. Part of me really wanted Chris’ story to be true! I wonder if someone at Alfasound told him that.
And yes you should be proud of that cut Jon – it’s a brilliant ID.
