Solid Gold GEM have been playing new jingles since the start of 2022 with the theme of “What will we play you next”, I am wondering if anybody knows who made them, they all sound very similar and are not a patch on their old JAM and PAMS re-sing jingles which have nearly all been ditched, also they have a new voice over man which I find really annoying.
This week I have been listening to BOOM Radio instead, a very good station with a good mix of music, TM jingles and a lot of very familiar old DJ’sFebruary 4, 2022 at 10:29 pm #107139IainJohnstonThought I’d heard it somewhere before!

Another TM package with the “slightly softer than RW but still RW-like” vocal sound,
which is a current sound of its time I guess.February 5, 2022 at 6:38 am #107140gameswizardMemberIsn’t Len Groat behind this station? I thought he was a big JAM/PAMS jingles fan, so it’s an unusual jingle direction for this station to take.
February 5, 2022 at 8:33 am #107141IainJohnstonSGG had TM jingles before when under Len’s management, but they were 1980s/90s “classic”
e.g. Synchronism etc..
These new ones are a current era/style TM take on what jingles” should be” for an “oldies” station.Have to say that the “Theme 07” I airchecked above sounds a bit like a cut JAM did several years ago,
but perhaps its “based upon” some specific song?February 5, 2022 at 9:02 am #107142UKJinglesMemberChrist..What have they done to that Great Oldies Station……..
The Jingles certainly don’t sound like an oldies station anymore! ?February 5, 2022 at 9:50 am #107143GrahamCollinsWell, I like the new sound

PAMS/JAM/TM packages?

Did notice the use of a few (John Quincy) type items and individual Personal Cuts floating around though?February 6, 2022 at 11:36 am #107148TigerQ105MemberHuh… now I understand why Solid Gold GEM suddenly turned silver after 2020.
No more JAM jingles… They started to sound like post-2016 classic hits stations with most of the 60s and 70s song library being gradually reduced into the void.February 6, 2022 at 1:18 pm #107149nleiboIainJohnston;c-76620 wrote:“Peter30 wrote: »

February 8, 2022 at 2:42 pm #107154MorganOCTLMemberDon’t blame them. Time to update things and rejuvenate. As much as some would like, or try, nothing lasts forever.
February 8, 2022 at 3:07 pm #107156mjb1124MemberIMO, this package is fine for modern US terrestrial Classic Hits stations. But it’s disappointing to see GEM go this route. I thought this was Len Groat’s pet project, but I guess not anymore.

Indeed..Count me as one of them (I used to listen 3 or 4 times a week) ?
It’s amazing that TM in contrast can do some really nice Jingles for another Oldies station (Boom Radio) but really these “Reelworld Sound-A-Likes” don’t fit on an Oldies station!
Maybe the Generation Z kids will like them! ?February 9, 2022 at 8:59 am #107169GrahamCollinsActually listener numbers are up since we launched the new jingles. I would suggest that most people don’t notice or care. The music policy is unchanged and the schedule is the same, so make of that what you will.
February 9, 2022 at 9:31 am #107170mbMemberThe JAM jingles sounded great, But even the greatest stations need some redecoration and freshening up occasionally. The new jingles are different but great to hear a new package on air and a station investing in its sound and imaging. I like the new jingles / I liked the old jingles. Plus a lot of work goes into a total overhaul of station imgaging so well done to the tem at SGM

Quote:Maybe the Generation Z kids will like them! ?Can’t vouch for Gen Z, but I’m a millennial and I preferred the old sound. Of course my tastes are not typical of my generation, but then again most millennials don’t seek out ’50-70s pop hits either. In any case, the ratings are up, so what do I know?

I am in Generation Z, and I strongly dislike them. JAM/PAMS sounds so much better, and their cuts would fit much nicer in between the music SGG AM plays. It’s still a good station, of course, but I would have gone a different direction with the jingles if it were up to me.
