I Have to say that I really like the new jingles for Sky Radio in Germany done by Top Format – That great full sound and European harded edge that Top format always had blended with a newer feel.
Really nice – they are on the top format website.
January 24, 2005 at 10:33 pm #24562RjMTop Format are one of my favourite non-US jingle producers, and I like the fact they don’t specialise in one jingle sound, from modern CHR to a classic sounding AC they know what sound fits the station format, and come up with the goods (unlike for example Music4 whose sound remains the same over the different formats)
I have to agree with you about their “full” sound- they certainly have it spot on, and I know JAM is a touchy subject on the board tonight, but TF’s JAM re-sings are much more authentic sounding than the UK sings of ALFA/Steve England.
The Charivari package is one of my favourite packages ever (and that’s not just Top Format) with such rich vocals and really classy instrumentation.
January 25, 2005 at 8:25 am #24566BigdaveThe Best Of Both Skies actually featured both the JAM and Top Format vocal groups on the same cuts ….
I do agree though – there’s only so many times you can hear Steve Butler’s voice on a Alfasound/Steve England resing…
January 25, 2005 at 12:25 pm #24567InfernoTop Format do have great singers and are very flexible. Top Format also use singers from other European countries but it’s how they use and coach their voices which makes TF good. Problem with S2BLUE is their hit and miss. They have the talent and great close harmony too. BBC Radio Derby’s 1998 package music beds were good as some of the vocals for Sabras Radio were good. They certainly get more experience now and i’d love it for S2BLUE to resing a Coast package to prove to people they can sing as good as TF!
I was impressed with RJO’S download of Lantern FM’S Alfa’s resings. They were good and it’s a pity Alfa werent always like that.January 25, 2005 at 12:58 pm #24568BarrasTop Format Productions have always been one of my favourite jingle producers too. When working in radio several years ago, with a couple of other guys from Sun FM, we once visted the Top Format studios in Holland, just outside Amsterdam. The studios at that time (might have changed nowadays) were in a 3 storey house. The reception area on the ground floor, studio on the middle floor and another smaller studio for voice-work on the top floor. Their archive material was housed in the basement.
You might not know this but our jingle buddy Sean Martin has some of his name-check jingles on a couple of the earlier demo`s from Top Format.

January 25, 2005 at 10:51 pm #24569m_hodgeyMemberI have always been a huge fan of Top Format’s work and especially love the Sky Radio stuff they have produced over the years.
Anyhow, here’s my favourite Sky Radio jingle. It is a TOTH cut, but I’m not sure what package it is from. Does anyone know whether it is a Top format or JAM jingle?
January 27, 2005 at 3:23 pm #24570simon_t123MemberI think that cut is from another of these jointly produced packages that JAM and Top Format worked on, much like the other Sky Radio packages, Sky Trax, Best Of Both Skies etc. Most of these packages JAM have put out in the States also.
January 27, 2005 at 10:29 pm #24571m_hodgeyMemberWhen the pennys have built up enough for another JAM personal cut I think I might possibly have a Sky Radio jingle re-sung; especially with how my name fits the Sky Radio logo. Having said that, I still have a strong urge to go for a Hyperlink resing next. Hmm……………………… Watch this space.

I wonder why the latest Sky packages haven’t been re-demoed for US stations by JAM yet? Their first package “Skytrax” was re-sung for WLTE, and their second “Best Of Both Skies” was re-sung for Klassy 100 as “Cleansweep”.
Another TF/JAM joint production package still to be re-demoed by JAM for the US market is the Radio Donna 1998 package “My Donna”. I’m also still waiting to hear a US demo for the Steve England/JAM UKRD package.
January 28, 2005 at 8:16 am #24573BigdaveIf PD’s were’nt so anal about using sung cuts , I would have suggested that someone like the Lincs FM group have something like the UKRD package resung for their stations.
After all , the music signature would fit at least 4 of their stations ….

“More jingles – more fun – Mark Hodgkinson!”
Well – it certainly fits!
If you go for a cut from one of the Sky packages , you could have one from Skytrax resung as ..
“Jingles without the blah, blah, blah – Mark Hodgkinson” .
Just wait until you hear what lyrics I’ve got for my resing of the Turbo Z Morning song – now they’ll make you smile . Ordering the cut next week !!!
January 29, 2005 at 11:46 am #24575InfernoDoes anyone know the history of Top Format? When did it start, who started it and what are their previous packages like from day one?
February 2, 2005 at 8:35 pm #24576thehexI’ve always thought that the jointly-produced JAM/Top Format Sky Radio jingles are some of the best cuts around. I haven’t heard Sky recently, though – are they still using them? I’d be surprised if they weren’t!
Another Dutch station, Radio 10 Gold, had similar-sounding packages, although being an AM station, hearing them in crystal clear stereo is something I’ve never been able to experience! Anybody got any R10Gold cuts?
February 2, 2005 at 10:17 pm #24577RenegadeYes, I have many cuts of the Radio 10 Gold package. Here’s a short montage I quickly made:

February 2, 2005 at 10:36 pm #24580RenegadeI’m sorry, I didn’t know.
Can you explain to me where I can upload my files to?TIA
