TC ~ many thanks for updating this topic, getting the facts straight ~ I guess that just like 'good old jingles', 'good old topics' keep playing and playing !

Good to know it was actually Cheryl Clevenger on lead ~ I love her voice, and can 'play' the whole WCOD demo 'in my head' even now as I played it so much 'back then'.

My very favourite cut/version is the 'K93' with the amazing vocal block on 'of Savannah' ….

We should get Ron Sedaille to use some of the original WDRC versions on his Saturday night / You Tube show !

      Best wishes

I'll pass along your suggestion to Ron… but know they wouldn't. The jingles they use tend not to have the call letters in them. They try to identify themselves as THE BIG D… which would take some careful editing with this package to do.

BTW some great Tanner pics on Jingleweb including the TANNER BUILDING on Union Avenue and pics of Tanner reels and cassettes, check them out here…

To me, it's humorous to see all of those Tanner libraries (Sounds of Broadcasting, Tanner Country, Showcase, Trendsetter, etc…) since I have a set of them all on vinyl and all of the reels that were used to make the disks.

Sadly, the material is very dated and has no place in the current realm of radio. However it's still neat, nevertheless!

I love the group “OF SAVANNAH!!” sing. I wonder if more of the track could be sung this way if i ordered a resing?

By the way, this has to be one of the best JM threads ever! All the ingrediants are here, good jingles, key contributers and facinating facts! Love it!

                  Hello DB

Yes the K93 was the version I meant.. thanks

                  Hello Mike

Your question about singing more of the cut with the 'Savannah' style:

As I hear it this is an unusual 'call and response' cut, alternating soloist and gospel style group/blocks –

solo – gospel group – solo – gospel group – both – solo – gospel group 'yeah!'

To make a re-sing work you have to stick quite closely to this format, replacing line-for-line with the same 'syllabalisation'

Then, at the session, get the singers to 'rehearse' the cut using the ORIGINAL words, and once they've copied the original/ 'polished' it, they sing it with YOUR words!

You should end up with the same sound….

Out of interest, which year was the original WCOD version of Simple and Free produced?

I don't have the copyright information available, but WDRC used the package starting in the Summer of 1974.
