I’m DELIGHTED to see the government has at LAST realised something needs to be done to prevent the ‘dumbing-down’ of UK radio by huge groups (such as Global) which would see the complete de-localisation of commercial radio.
If the take-over plans of Global proceed without solid objection from people who KNOW about radio (like us) there will be even LESS jingles on UK radio, and this site will turn into a nostalgic ‘jingle ghost town’.
Therefore, I hope those who care about jingles (and the stations that play the ‘good’ ones) will read this link, and write to Ofcom/ Jeremy Hunt about how it affects YOU locally.
YOUR voice matters.

With Capital FM’s ‘reach’ in the East Midlands (where they closed Trent FM), down from 28% to 24% in a YEAR it’s clear we DO need to stop this awful homogenisation of what was GREAT radio in the 80s and early 90s.
Thank you.

August 5, 2012 at 11:31 pm #85731star tetleyI spent hours with a tape recorder in the 80’s/90’s. Now there would be no need for one. The big disaster is the BBC local stations using the same ‘non-sung’ jingles. Some of the commercial groups still use sung imaging but nothing exciting. Unfortunately i don’t think there is anything we can do. The only hope is that everything goes round in cycles.

Totally agree with you…
BBC “Local” Radio is now the biggest joke in station imaging!
Let’s hope “what goes round…comes round”
