I was very sorry to see this post from Ron on Facebook:
‘I received the news today that the new owners of Hartford’s Big D have decided not to retain me, or All Request Saturday Night. I feel blessed to have worked for such a legendary radio station for the last 29 years. My coworkers and many of you have become dear friends over the years, like family. In life, when one door closes another opens. I have big plans to keep the Saturday night show alive, and I will let you know about it soon – Please stay in touch!! Love to you all’
The change is due to new owners (yes it’s the same old story….)

I’m sure many UK fans of the show will want to know where Ron will be next – one of THE best jocks in the world in 2014 and a true jingle connoisseur….

July 7, 2014 at 10:52 pm #95173tyty21ian, it’s true! he’d do great!
July 7, 2014 at 11:08 pm #95174radio_blokeMemberVery Sad News, But hey, its radio and it happens all the time.
The achievement of “dodging the radio bullet for 29 years” is something that few will experience and worthy of a large round of applause.
I can’t imagine he’ll be without a gig for long!!
July 7, 2014 at 11:25 pm #95175Tracy CarmanMemberLiving 20 mins up the road from WDRC and growing up with the station, it’s hard to see these changes. On the FM, they only retained the morning news anchor. The entire air staff was let go.
Corporate America continues…

July 8, 2014 at 12:25 am #95176dianablanton1984MemberA very sad day indeed… Ron’s show was very entertaining and exciting, but with him gone, I am upset. I wish Ron the best of luck in the future…
July 8, 2014 at 12:54 am #95177mbMemberI wonder what generic vanilla stuff will replace it. I have such little faith in radio in 2014.
Shame and I hope he finds a suitable replacement soon as I do all the staff let go in these difficult times.July 8, 2014 at 2:09 am #95178loujosephsAnd these guys are supposed to be good operators geesh
July 8, 2014 at 11:14 am #95180bossjockMemberThis is very sad news indeed. I look forward to hearing Ron every week and I always watch his YouTube videos too. He’s such a professional – in a league of his own. I do hope that he gets a new “gig” very soon and wish him all the best for the future.

Sounds as if the station has been ‘Smooooooved’ – a great shame as his show sounded excellent.
Another one for SGGAM Len ? Go on !

‘Another one for SGGAM Len ? Go on ! ‘
Funny you should suggest that
A bit of ‘Rockin’ might be fun on Solid Gold GEM!
July 9, 2014 at 4:25 pm #95191tyty21you’re all so right on that, get him on before the big guys do!
July 10, 2014 at 12:28 am #95196dianablanton1984MemberUm…. guys? If Ron goes on Solid Gold GEM, I dread the PAMS Series 17 “Latin Signature” cut being ordered for his new show over there, aka the RHUMBA jingle!!!!
July 10, 2014 at 2:35 am #95198mjb1124MemberYeah, I think we’d definitely see the revenge of the Rhumba if Ron joined GEM. (It wouldn’t need to be resung either, since it doesn’t mention any radio stations.) Heck, since GEM has had a few Z100 resings, maybe he could throw on that Z Force cut as well!
Really unfortunate to hear about all the dismissals and changes at DRC-FM though. I’m not a fan of the “rock-leaning” version of the Classic Hits format, which basically amounts to a watered-down Classic Rock station, lacking both the edgier rock tracks you’d hear on that format and the Pop/R&B/Disco/etc. you’d hear on stations like the old DRC-FM. And of course, there’s no more jingles. Can’t say I’m too shocked since Connoisseur made a similar move at B103 in Long Island which is now DRC’s sister station. But it’s still a really disappointing knee-jerk move, and I can only hope Ron, Grahame, and the others land on their feet.
July 10, 2014 at 2:48 am #95199dianablanton1984Membermjb1124: don’t mention Z Force cut 10 ever again!!!!! ~X(
I have seen the comments on DRC-FM’s Facebook page since the change happened, and while I haven’t listened to the stream itself, I was NOT impressed with the new ownership of the station. Definitely NOT looking back on that either.
Whatever station Ron ends up with, I know I will tune in at some point, but with the Rhumba and Z Force 10 making the comeback, well…..
PS: if Ron sees this post and comments on this, I will freak out…
July 11, 2014 at 3:22 am #95200RockinRonawwwwwwwww – FREAK OUT! I plan on returning with my own online radio station soon. Hang with me, as it is going to take a bit to set up and test. And yes, ALL of my jingles will be returning I sincerely appreciate your friendship, and loyalty to ARSN! Cheers! Rockin’ Ron
July 11, 2014 at 4:18 am #95201dianablanton1984MemberTo Rockin’ Ron – I’m doomed!!!!!!
(That means the Rhumba and the Z are returning!!!!)
OK…. sorry fellow JingleMadders for acting like this… When I used to comment during Ron’s ARSN days, I freak out whenever those two jingles come on the air out of nowhere. Please forgive me for acting like this in this forum. I am still a jingle nut, but there are some jingles that just… well…. I won’t go into details on that.
Now back to the usual jingle mayhem on JingleMad.

All the best to you and your new project Ron!
July 11, 2014 at 2:47 pm #95203bossjockMemberYes – good luck with your Internet Radio project Ron! I look forward to streaming you and your excellent jingles (I assume by “ALL” you mean your classic PAMS resings too?) on my PC soon /
July 31, 2014 at 9:29 pm #95305loujosephsThe new drc is a highly formatted classic rock station. It does fill the void that will be left bya wccc fm when they go all religion on Friday at 5pm..It becomes another EMF station christian music. Interesting how this medium market has consolidated.
I am finding that either a podcast or a dedicated internet station if you can afford the fees (don’t have many measurable listeners).August 1, 2014 at 6:17 pm #95313WAVAMemberI didn’t particularly like Ron’s style but I accept it was a very popular show with a big following. What I have heard of the new DRC isnt worth writing here

For anyone that doesn’t actually have a dub of ‘LNG’s PAMS material,
this page is worth a browse #”on a rainy day like today”#
:^)November 1, 2023 at 11:02 am #109545Neil LeibowitzMemberThanks for the link to the “Jingle of The Day”, Iain. Gotta tell you–that’s a LOT of “yapping” to describe a jingle <<whoo>>.
Still waiting for your email Re: The Series 33 Pre-RecordsNovember 1, 2023 at 11:42 am #109546TigerQ105MemberAre the “New Owners” the SAME MORONS who CHOKED the heck out of WLNG until it sounded like CRAP…
Nope. WDRC-FM was bought by Connoisseur Media in 2014, sacked everyone out of DRC, and flipped to The Whale in 2015.
WLNG, on the other hand, is currently owned by Bark Out Loud Dogs Media, LLC.Ever since the changes in the law in 1996, we’ve seen more corporate radio taking over and almost unalive the rest of its ‘pure local’ radio stations. Sadly, DRC-FM was one of the victims of this, because they unalived one of Hartford’s most loved oldies radio. Now it’s just a ‘WHALE’ of a joke, as one former Big D 103 listener remembers.
