With all the talk on the “All Canadian Montage” about Ron Hicklin…here are a few examples.
November 7, 2011 at 11:58 pm #80848TServo2049I can never get enough of these L.A. vocals. That KFI “Big Sound” cut is amazing.
Those downtempo soft cuts are simply beautiful. Stuff like the original WMGK sings of Magic Music, or the “you in the moonlight” cut from the You campaign. And you ever hear the “KOY makes you wanna fly” cut from their Ed Yelin custom? Great stuff.
Back when I still had my collection, I think I sent Barras a copy of the beautiful-music jingles Ed Yelin did with the Hicklin singers for WSRS. I’d love to hear those again…
November 8, 2011 at 12:35 am #80849ratnobMemberI’m the same – love the arrangements and vocals and so-clever lyrics. I do wonder what most listeners must have made of them on the air. Thanks very much for posting.
November 8, 2011 at 2:28 am #80850tomobieI would guess that most listeners really don’t appreciate the lyrics. Listen to some of Draper-Blore’s packages for WCAR & WCFL..or…Hugh Heller’s custom packages. Their “plays on words” are exceptional….but I don’t think the average listener even realizes it. The same with Ron Hicklin & Ed Yelin…and…Yup…got some Yelin stuff right here
November 8, 2011 at 6:04 am #80851TServo2049Dick Hamilton wrote some stuff for Ed Yelin, overlapping with his work for TM. After leaving Heller, Dick Hamilton had his own company, Dick Hamilton Enterprising, and did stuff for others on a work-for-hire basis (e.g. TM, Ed Yelin, Klein &).
Everything about Hamilton’s stuff was great, he was a mad genius.

Love these Tom, thanks for posting…
To TServo2049, drop me an email and I`ll get the WSRS package back to you. BTW do you know the name of the feamle vocalist on this WSRS station song ?
November 8, 2011 at 8:05 pm #80856TServo2049Not sure, there were many L.A. session vocalists and the only ones I can identify by listening to them are the core Hicklin group.
November 8, 2011 at 11:21 pm #80857garyberkWow…I worked at WPRO for many years and never knew these Hicklin jingles existed!
November 9, 2011 at 2:04 am #80858TServo2049I don’t believe WPRO ever aired them. They were done by Dick Hamilton for Ed Yelin; I only learned of them when I visited Ron Harris years ago and saw that package, and the Yelin demo that Tom excerpted, in his collection.
I believe Ron was a liaison with Mr. Hamilton while he was employed by TM Productions; that would explain why he had a lot of reels of Hamilton-related stuff.
