I l-o-v-e these JAM custom cuts for WDRC FM. Hopefully JMW will publish them soon on the JAM-site (?)
SimonJuly 22, 2012 at 2:48 pm #85496Tracy CarmanMemberI don’t tape it off the internet… but off the air. Here is the show from last night – 7pm-9pm, music scoped BUT commercials in. I really need to put the antenna higher as the quality COULD be better… but it is what it is. Enjoy. WDRC Ron Sedaille – Aircheck – 21JUL2012 7pm-9pm (Music Scoped) by Tracy Carman, Media Preservation Foundation
July 23, 2012 at 12:02 pm #85507Tracy CarmanMemberJuly 23, 2012 at 1:10 pm #85508BarrasLeave the antenna where it is, this is what I call a “proper” aircheck, complete with the punch of FM and a little bit of hiss in the background…good one Mr Carman !
July 23, 2012 at 1:19 pm #85509dianablanton1984MemberHey Tracy,
You have been very thoughtful in posting the July 21st aircheck of Rockin’ Ron working his magic. I listened online via their stream, unfortunately, which shows the major difference between the off-air receiver and online versions (we’re treated to PSA’s online while local commercials set in when we’re in town!). I tuned in from 7pm-Midnight that night, but I still never forget that RHUMBA moment at the 9pm hour! (roughly 9:45pm)
I would be freaking out right now if anyone posted the different variations of that cut (PAMS Series 17 “Latin Signature” cut)… X_X
July 23, 2012 at 9:15 pm #85517TurnToStoneThanks a lot tcarman. I hope the file will be still available when I will be home on August 1st. One bid for next week … could you also leave the music inside cause I love listening to the whole show on my way to work and back the week after
July 24, 2012 at 3:23 am #85522Tracy CarmanMemberThe problem with leaving the music in is that SoundCloud will only allow TWO hours of audio per account, and the show runs FIVE hours. It just made sense to scope the show. I did tape the whole show (and stuff before and after it) to a hard drive.
Diana: Due to Copyright/AFTRA rules, they can’t air the commercials over the internet without paying additional royalties to the talent… hence, the PSAs.
July 24, 2012 at 3:15 pm #85526bobgreenradioMemberhow long before the silly “copyright/aftra” rules require psa’s to also be “clocked as cash”?
think about it. the feds or some do-gooder agency goes out and ‘buys’ some talent to pitch their cause.
same deal as pitching a macburger, chevy, coke, whatever.so when psa’s are blocked what fills the holes then?
jingles? a 3-5 minute jingle sweep?July 24, 2012 at 6:23 pm #85534TurnToStoneNow I understand why the commercials sound quite uncommon and why there is some space between them and why quite often DRC-FM-jingles run that time.
@tcarman: I understand. Maybe there is someone else who could tape all 5 hours and put it on a server?
July 24, 2012 at 6:31 pm #85535TurnToStone@bobgreenradio: commercials for taking care for wildfire, DRC-FM-promos, a promo woth Hulk Hogan for renting electronics and so on. And everything in cooperation with the ad council. A quite strange mixture
July 24, 2012 at 8:38 pm #85536mjb1124MemberThe only thing that annoys me about the commercials being replaced is that sometimes they cut off the beginning or end of a jingle, promo, or jock break leading in/out of the commercials. Otherwise, it doesn’t really bother me – and if they’re replacing the commercials with extra jingles as DRC-FM apparently does, that’s an improvement in my book.
Back on topic, it’s great to be able to listen to Ron’s show live now – I was doing just that in the car this past Saturday. It’s really a one-of-a-kind show.
July 24, 2012 at 9:32 pm #85539bobgreenradioMembergeeeze, a “one of a kind show”? im not to sure about that. its a fairly normal oldies show. its tight, well done, and he ties his callers to the patter, all of which is a good thing. what i just discovered (i listened to what t/c uploaded) is the stop sets are way to fat with spots. i wouldnt stand for that as a listener in nutmeg land. i mean, 2 songs and 8+ spots? thats a crime! is rick buckley making that much money?? or are these $5 spots? (said with a grin).
for me, the fastest way to kill a good thing is a format this over sold.
if the shows any good? UP THE RATE!
i guess the problem is, even if ron were to jump ship, where would he go?July 25, 2012 at 3:03 am #85543Tracy CarmanMember1. Rick Buckley died last July.
2. This is NOT Ron’s full-time gig, so I don’t think that his jumping ship is a consideration.I could post the full show on a server, but I’d have to do it at a low bitrate. I recorded it at 16bit/44.1 through CoolEdit (now Adobe Audition).
July 25, 2012 at 4:45 am #85545kolossMemberGreat to hear the show recorded off the air– Despite the commercial load; this is very cool to be presented this way in 2012– and when it is done this well, the jingles work as well as they did 45 years ago although I think most of the jingles stand the test of time.
Of course, back in the day, during the stop sets the the Jock would still ‘be there’ reading them and reading tags between recorded commercials– the blocks of ads did not seem so distant from the show as it does in most of radio today.
I read an old quote somewhere that basically said listeners appreciated that there was the warm friendly voice that was waiting to talk to you after the song, during commercials — what a difference it was…July 29, 2012 at 2:49 pm #85612Tracy CarmanMemberJuly 29, 2012 at 9:44 pm #85613TurnToStoneThanks a lot, tcarman. I will download it when I will be home on Wednesday.
July 30, 2012 at 4:43 pm #85618dianablanton1984MemberI can’t believe Rockin’ Ron pulled the “RHUMBA” jingle on me that night! D’OH! #-O
Tracy, please don’t really consider pulling a “RHUMBA” composite on JingleMad, I beg of you! That jingle’s way too addicting for my jingle tastes, folks.
July 31, 2012 at 2:46 am #85624Tracy CarmanMemberOkay, Diana… I won’t. I only have about 50-60 examples, give or take, in the PAMS archives here.
July 31, 2012 at 3:02 am #85625dianablanton1984MemberOkay, Diana… I won’t. I only have about 50-60 examples, give or take, in the PAMS archives here.
50-60 examples of that PAMS jingle, Tracy?!?!?!?! (*faints*)
July 31, 2012 at 6:42 am #85630Tracy CarmanMemberJuly 31, 2012 at 1:52 pm #85637dianablanton1984MemberOh no, Tracy, I’m not clicking on that above KYLE link! Don’t make me click it!
July 31, 2012 at 2:19 pm #85638TurnToStone@tcarman: call me stupid but how can I download these files??? I can’t find a button for that
August 1, 2012 at 2:48 pm #85650dianablanton1984MemberWell, folks… After sampling the KYLE cut, I’ve been instrumentally RHUMBA’D! Why me….
August 1, 2012 at 11:46 pm #85656mjb1124MemberDiana: wow, you sure are fixated on that “Rhumba” cut. I think I know what jingle I’ll get first if I start doing an oldies show.
TurnToStone: The download button is the one at the right of the sound file with the arrow pointing down. However, Soundcloud users can opt not to make their files downloadable, as Tracy appears to have done.
August 2, 2012 at 1:08 am #85659dianablanton1984Membermjb1124: You’d better warn me first before actually using that cut when you start doing an oldies show one day!!!
Regarding SoundCloud, there is good reason why many Soundcloud users choose not to make their files downloadable. On a free account, I think you’re limited to 100 downloads per track (but I think the “plays” are unlimited), so once the download limit had passed, you can’t download the file anymore. Just a thought.
