Here to announce some sad news – Legendary BBC radio personality Steve Wright has just passed away. More info can be seen on this article: https://amp.theguardian.com/media/2024/feb/13/steve-wright-bbc-radio-presenter-dies-aged-69
I hope a JMer can pay tribute to Steve Wright by putting together a montage of jingles what JAM and AJ produced for him.

February 17, 2024 at 12:48 pm #109921DavidMemberVery sad news borne out by the large outpouring of respect for him on social media.
I first listened to him on Radio Luxembourg in 1979, he wasn’t there long but he made an impression on me because I thought he was an excellent broadcaster even then.
One thing that struck me at the time was that maybe he had his own name jingles made for him as they sounded slightly different to the station jingles at the time.

The above is a link to a show he covered for called Disco Computer which tbh didn’t allow him to express much personality because it was a chart rundown show however at 40:26 he plays a name jingle which to me sounds different to the other ones just wondered if anyone knew who made those jingles?February 17, 2024 at 8:38 pm #109923IainJohnstonMemberAnyone in the UK visiting the excellent BBC Piano Room mini-concerts on BBC iPlayer will find a nice tribute to Steve by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Its just something will be instantly recognisable
;^)February 17, 2024 at 9:56 pm #109925TigerQ105MemberI had never heard of Steve Wright in the Afternoon before, until around June 2022 when I randomly listened to R2 online on BBC Sounds. (it was available internationally, so it’s possible to listen to R2 here in Indonesia despite being a few timezones apart from the UK)
It was fun, and it had lots of interesting segments too, including interviews, the ‘Factoids’, and of course, the ‘Serious Jockin’ (no G) segment was a total banger at the end of every one of his shows. and of course, the jingles, too. But when I heard that Steve was going to end his afternoon show in September, it was quite a bummer, knowing that he still shone through after a long stint at Radio 1 in the 80s until 1996 when he moved to R2. Sure, Scott Mills tried his hand on his afternoon show, but nothing could beat Wrighty for being so talented, bubbly and entertaining. It will never be the same again after he passed on.
FLy high, Wrighty.

Here’s a special show broadcast on Radio 1’s 25th birthday in 1992 as Steve plays his favourite moments from Steve Wright in the afternoon.
