anyone – someone must have a resing for another station?August 15, 2008 at 3:01 pm #61182IainJohnston
MemberWere these R2 cuts customs Mike? I know that its often said that UK custom stuff doesn't usually get paid any attention to by USA stations unless re-sung with a US-style station name/call-letters (e.g. Metro aka Y95-whatever etc)
However, there is a man who knows…!

I'm unable to dub from reel at the moment otherwise I would have uploaded the original for KNBR 68 San Francisco. It comes from the “Good Times” package and was one of about three they had re-sung as part of the '82 set.

we always hear on jinglemad the same jingles resung again and again for many different radio stations.
then you get the occasional cut like the one i uploaded and NEVER hear a variation either in another station package/demo or someone's posted montage.ps i don't know whether any jingles are custom or not,Iain.i'm not into jingle details like that.
i just know i like themAugust 15, 2008 at 4:34 pm #61189IainJohnston
Member“ps i don't know whether any jingles are custom or not”
For a very quick “fill-in” for Mike…
PAMS of Dallas typically did off-the-peg “numbered Series” packages and a few “custom” efforts.
Clients would then simply ask for a re-sing of the very latest Series package, which could appear
even twice or more in a year (stations could “burn out” jingles very quickly then). Sometimes stations
would vie to grab a new PAMS package before their “across town” competitor(s) did. Some PAMS
Series packages also “disappointed” shall we say, but thats another topic.JAM went more for a “custom commissions” approach, whereby a client station or group would
have a package “made-to-measure” completely from scratch for themselves, and would have unique
broadcast rights to it for such & such months before anyone else would be allowed to have a re-sing
for a different market. (I think Jon said that “custom's break even in cost terms, and the “jam”
(sorry!) is made from all the later re-sings”, especially as probably the most expensive part must the
writing performing & production of the instrumentation/backing tracks?)Over the years the sheer quality of JAM custom packages has clearly outshone the “Series” approach.
Back on PAMS – although many PAMS Series packages had WABC (& other) call letters on the demos,
the stations “on the demo” often themselves had the cuts re-sung differently in reality – some of
these “air versions” can be a bit rare.Pepper-Tanner were also known for featuring e.g. 20 stations on a demo yet the stations were never
asked for or approved of their calls being used – and “air versions” happened there too

Hope you don`t mind me jumping in here Mark but I`ve found the cut Mike wanted to hear, as you said Mark it`s from the Good Times package by JAM and is actually cut #10. I know I have another resing of this cut for an American radio station…it`s that time again for saying, if I find it, I`ll post it here Mike…hope that helps.

Although most of the cuts in the “Good Times” package were originally made for KNBR, the cut you're talking about was not. It was first done for KRNA. Radio 1 and 2 both made use of those KRNA tracks (“it's the happy, happy sound of Radio 1” is another example).

That'll explain why on the R1 Master logs for 1980, the
“its the happy happy sound cut” is logged as KRNA, whereas on the 1982 logs for Radio 2, their cuts were logged as GT. Was there an actual demo done for KRNA? -
