In the recent Radio Awards in the United Kingdom, Reelworld got a mention regarding the radio ID jingle (sung jingle) and the best station imaging award went to Radio 1Xtra, here`s the final outcome:
Best Station Imaging
Gold: BBC Radio 1Xtra
Silver: Capital Network
Bronze: BBC Radio 2
Nominee: KISS & ReelWorld Productions for KISS
Nominee: JACKfm OxfordshireMay 16, 2012 at 1:48 am #84180bobgreenradioMemberhats off to em, and a hardy BRAVO!
May 16, 2012 at 5:02 am #84182ratnobMemberIt amazes me that Radio 2 would be given a nomination, let alone an award …
May 16, 2012 at 10:17 am #84183LenGroatThe Radio 2 nomination included the PAMS jingles re-sung (brilliantly) by S2Blue for the Tony Blackburn ‘Pick of the Pops’.
I suspect the indiscrete ‘tantrum’ ReelWorld had on their website made it unlikely they would win this year ?

I think you are confusing ReelWorld with Grooveworx there Len.
May 16, 2012 at 11:08 am #84185LenGroatSorry ReelWorld
I DEFINITELY confused ReelWorld with Grooveworx…..
I do find these ‘modern’ jingle companies all sound the same (to me)
I was actually trying to post a (topical) Jackie Jingle cartoon… but it would not work…

May 16, 2012 at 6:09 pm #84191glenNo taste in jingles are supposed to sound like.
The judges have no idea what a station is supposed to sound like!May 16, 2012 at 7:09 pm #84193AT-GrooveMemberCongratulations ReelWorld, well done!
May 16, 2012 at 8:41 pm #84194bobgreenradioMemberbut len; it is, after all, formula programming now… and by nitwits!
face it. the industry was rolled into the ‘group management’ scheme, with layers of little “yes” twits (or the nastier word fits here too) that kiss up to the next level of mismanagement. as a result the jingle biz now reflects the garbage on air.
you know len, i have to admit most of those pepper packages i had to put up with years ago, now sound pretty good when compared to whats out there.try this on for size: kiss…jack…bob…”Z” something or other…magic…lite…jamin…
for christs-sake! wheres the local? and wheres the live? no skilled programming and morning drive is it for local-live. the rest of the day is formula crap off the ‘bird’. god help any air talent that sounds fresh.
grooveworx, reelworld, kiss, lite….its all the same.
May 17, 2012 at 4:00 am #84198AdminWhat’s being forgotten here is the category is for station imaging, NOT sung jingles. Out of the list above the only station using sung idents is Radio 2.

Good point, though I’m still surprised that Radio 2 is seen as so effective at overall imaging. Its programming is inevitably a miss-mash, as they have to accommodate so many styles, from Chris Evans to The Organist Entertains; but I’ve not noticed imaging which creates any particular sense of coherence or consistency. Anyhow, well done to them …

I guess that’s where the “sonic logo” comes into play. In all seriousness, in spite of some of the criticism here, I do see the value in a consistent logo melody, especially for a station as all-over-the-place as Radio 2. And although I generally haven’t been a huge fan of Groove’s Radio 2 jingles, I do like the logo.
