The demo mode to me was a complete clash of musical styles…

1) Actual contemporary “songs” with people playing instruments and singing, often quite smoothly

2) “jingles” that sounded like they were being played through a faulty digital filter processor with over-set notch filters
and a band-stop top and bottom filter set to comb mode, then played down an analogue phone line for good measure.
And the same old same old they’ve been doing for 20 years (and some people critisize JAM for that!)

Sounded more interesting in the cut-by-cut mode at least. But RW-USA becoming a one-trick pony now.

No doubt will sell successfully to hundreds of USA stations – in the same way that Americans lap up burgers and fries.

I’ll stick to listening to the more melodic RW European division’s interesting output.

Drama aside, if I were running a CHR station, I’d steer as clear away from that package as I possibly could. I’d much rather TM Evo…

The music on CHR nowadays seems quite a bit noisier, less melodic, and less adult-friendly compared to even 5 years ago. Saw an article about how the “mother daughter coalition” that helped CHR succeed in the late 2000s/early ’10s had faded. So yeah, it’s probably no coincidence that the newest KIIS jingles would sound less friendly to adult ears.

That said, CHR numbers ARE down compared to that earlier period. And AC has asserted its dominance while skewing a bit softer and older again, due to the lack of viable new CHR crossover material and the burnout factor of the late ’00s/early ’10s stuff. Which, on a similar note, is why AC stations may be moving away from more CHR-influenced jingle packages.
