Looks like AI has managed to begin terrorising the radio jingle community now, because I just discovered that some SoundCloud AI content farm named “Radio Spoof” is making AI-generated spoof reels from the golden era of radio, run for your lives!!!

If you don’t get what I mean, then have a listen for yourself: https://soundcloud.com/spoof-471051413/tracks

In addition to injury, and the tracks except for the Radio Luxembourg demo’s covers are also AI-generated.

It may not be that bad, but I think there are many people on this site who are against AI…

Think of how AI could put jingle companies like JAM and TM at risk, and how many jobs will be cut! (I swear this is my last message here for today, since I can’t edit any of my messages.)

So, I heard some of the tracks on this page and my lord… I have mixed feelings about this…

It’s amazing what AI can do to emulate the voices of the announcers including Charlie van Dyke and Bill Mitchell, but can’t do the same when it comes to singing these jingles. But I want to remind people that there are 2 different users of AI, one uses it for shiggles, and the other uses it for… well, who knows? The radio industry is now using ‘ethical AI’ to emulate real voices for sweepers and such. Even the news and weather reports on the radio are now AI-powered, but those ‘guys’ don’t have the compassion and energy of the real voices that do it.

Still, real human voices are doomed to become extinct and I don’t think AI will even try to fill in those blanks when they’re gone, especially in the radio jingle industry. I couldn’t imagine what they would sound like if it was made with AI, because I bet nothing will beat the real thing made by real people.

But still, AI is AI. It feels like an unstoppable force in the industry, but I think radio jingles in common and AI does not mix well together. Remember, we still have real jingles singers and voiceovers that not even AI could dare to replace. AI itself is raw and dangerous, so they have to proceed with caution when using AI to replicate certain voiceover artists, even if it were made for spoofs or parodies.
