Here in the UK, many of us got into jingles because of JAM’s IDs on the BBC. Some of us would spend hours trying to record jingles only tinny little cassette tapes. Here’s a personal retrospective of some favourite JAM Radio One cuts – with a quick PAMS flashback to the first cuts to air on the station. They range from 1976 to 1987 (the flashback is from 1967).
Listening to the jingles now, you realise the diversity, memorability and ambition of JAM’s work. It made a good radio station sound great.
So, reach for the tissues, prepare for nostalgia and enjoy …
November 18, 2004 at 11:13 pm #14385jr2479Great job!! Thanks for sharing. The Best Show cuts in there were great!

November 19, 2004 at 4:50 am #14387jkubiakThat was awesome! I really liked the best show cuts too. I thought radio 1 bought all custom work from Jam. I didnt think that they bought any syndicated work. I could swear I hear some KHTR cuts in there. Was I right?
Anyways, great job. Montages are the bomb!
November 19, 2004 at 4:52 am #14388kcmikeI laughed, I cried. I enjoyed every minute!

Radio 1 only ever had 4 custom packages – Music Now 1982, 1FM 1990, The Ultimate One 1992 and Closer To The Music in 1994. However, they did have tons of custom stand alone cuts as top up’s.
You are right on KHTR. They had cuts from Hit Radio resung in 1984. Through the years they also had cuts from Warp Factor, The Best Show, The Best Show 2, The Rock, KZZP, Positron, Oustanding, Hot KIIS, Fresh KIIS, Skywave, Into The Music, Rock Connection….the list is never ending…then of course there’s radio 2….
November 20, 2004 at 1:19 am #14395ttesteveAnother great mix Geoff – thanks very much.
Hope you don’t mind me jumping on the bandwagon, but I thought I’d pick it up where you left off!
So here’s more Radio One in the mix, this time from 1988 to 1994 (again, all JAM – as far as I know!)
November 20, 2004 at 7:01 am #14396ratnobMemberAuthorThanks, Steve. My collection of Radio One packages runs out in 1987, so it’s great to hear this.
It’s interesting seeing the appreciative reaction to this post – those Radio One JAM memories are clearly rooted deep in our souls! For many of us, it’s why we became collectors, and somehow – especially (for me) with the early JAM stuff – the world seemed a happier, friendlier place. It just shows how great imaging can create a whole mood. That’s where I think ReelWorld misunderstand things when they sneer at the barbershop harmonies and big brass sound of Dallas jingles. Of course the jingles don’t match feel of the music – but they create a powerful, self-confident, showbizzy station that somehow rises above the day-to-day randomness of the hits. Does that make sense? Anyway, thanks for updating my memories!
November 20, 2004 at 10:51 am #14397UKJinglesMemberThat was a good one Steve..Some jingles that I’ve never heard before….Which is always nice
Now can someone help me with just one itsy bitsy Radio One Jingle from 1982?
For their 15th Birthday Radio One had JAM resing a cut from PAMS Series 31…..The Voice Of Radio One Jingle became “Happy Birthday Radio One…15 Years Of Fun….Music….On Radio One”
Anybody got a copy please?Regards,
Pete
November 21, 2004 at 3:14 pm #14405bland75MemberYep thanks also for a great monatge Steve – definately brought the memories flooding back.
If possible, can you (or anyone else) post the 1988 FM Add on cuts ? I’ve been after them for while so would be great if they can be posted here.
Thanks very much !! Paul
November 21, 2004 at 4:06 pm #14406RobinBlamiresI can help you part of the way with all the Radio 1 jingles I have from 1988. This selection contains mainly the custom jingles including the UK Top 40 jingles. If anyone can help complete the set then it would be most welcome!
(Edit)

November 21, 2004 at 7:48 pm #14410BrammyMemberThanks from me too.
They haven’t half brought back some memories!!
November 21, 2004 at 7:59 pm #14413rakMemberThanks for posting that, Robin. I’d not heard such a full copy before – it was especially good to hear it on the eve of JAM’s 30th birthday!
November 21, 2004 at 8:14 pm #14414AdminI’m sorry to be the one that has to do this, but I have had to remove the second link due to there being instrumental Jam tracks in the file.
I know that no harm was meant, but jingle companies don’t like their backing tracks being made available online as they can very easily fall into the wrong hands (ie : people that rip them off).
The last thing I want is for Jinglemad to get into any legal trouble.
I’m sorry.
November 21, 2004 at 10:37 pm #14417RobinBlamiresThat is understood as I was rather hasty in uploading the file and I should be the person apologising. Here is the file again without the offending items.
November 21, 2004 at 10:50 pm #14418UKJinglesMemberWell done Robin…..The Best Upload for ages!!!
Now if you could do the same with the ’82 Add-Ons…..than I certainly would wet my pants!!Thanks,
Pete.
November 21, 2004 at 11:53 pm #14421RobinBlamiresOK then, here are the 1982-1983 Add Ons that should be helpful.
Enjoy!November 22, 2004 at 6:26 am #14425jkubiakAll three montages in this topic were absolutely wonderful to hear. I did not realize what a diverse station that Radio 1 was. WOW!
November 24, 2004 at 10:18 pm #14458frankI’ve added the Radio 1 1994 chart countdown bed to the Jingle Mad downloads section.Enjoy!

I was in my bedroom in school uniform (!) with a mic up against radio one one, the first morning, at 3 mins to seven,to hear radio one open with only 12 minutes tape at 3 and a quarter, making my first ROT. Ha Ha Ha
I heard the arnold/blackburn theme again today on the way to this site, wow, thats some music bed to get to talk over huh? full on…..
kenny has sung my name thro his vocoder, for me to play on air, oh yeah, and i got my name sung across a pirate copy of a radio 2 bed, thats pretty sweet, but u cant beat radio one. ( ocean 86, alphasound had some nice doughnuts and string beds tho, esp with alan lambourne doing v/o) (got the 10″ if I can find a revox)
thanks for the edit of the radio one jingles. awesome. I shall burn that to disc if you dont mind. I mix music today, and have for 15 years, among other things. nice edit……….
to hear those Beeb jingles with the full on phasing and flange effects and deep bass voices, which just about make it thro mp3, it was great to hear them , thank you Oh how I wish i could hear them at 15 on a pair of tannoys’ up loud……
thanks again for the edit, nice one.
my fave jingle in there comes at 07’04
I/C. ask for a song and we’ll play it for you, england wales and…..
I always used to sing really obscene words to that one, about where one might insert something in to someone else…..
‘blush’
thanks again for the edit.ps: do u think we could get someone in to sing my words to the bed of ‘ask for a song and we’ll play it for you’….. lol
