I was going through some old dusty boxes and found this truely awful package. It’s so bad that I can’t even remember who made it, why or when! I think it was around 1979. You can’t beat that 70’s Casio keyboard sound. Hope you don’t enjoy.

OnyxPaulI wonder if you’d have thought it awful back in 1979? Now it sounds dreadful yes, but even back then, this package would have cost the station an awful lot of money, and I suspect would have even sounded good on air.
May 21, 2006 at 3:33 pm #20917OnyxPaulMemberAuthorYou could be right Pete, Jinglemania does ring a bell. The answer to David’s question is “yes”. I remember it being awful even back then compared with some of the classic stuff being aired by Piccadilly, Beacon, Metro, Manx etc and the superb Jam jingles on Radios 1 & 2!
May 23, 2006 at 11:56 am #20973InfernoGreat to hear them. Thanks for that! I always take an interest in BBC local radio packages from the 70s and 80s. I grew up listening to Radio Derby,WM,Leicester and Stoke in the early 80s and their jingles were great. What i would do to hear the BBC Radio Derby 1980 and 1983 jingles or Radio Leicester’s 1983 and 1985 jingles! Does anyone know who did these jingles?

Yeah there were some nice original BBC Local Radio stations around back in the 1970’s/1980’s…
BBC Leicester had STANDARD SOUND in 1981
BBC Derby had SUE MANNING in 1984 (as did BBC Stoke)
My Favourite from the 1980’s was the BBC Northampton package by
STUDIO G in 1983…..
Has anybody got the full package in STEREO!?!
or were the rumours true and it was produced in Mono!
May 23, 2006 at 2:09 pm #20980BigdaveRadio Leicester had a package mid to late 1980’s by David Arnold. He also did Radio’s Cambridgeshire,Gloucestershire,Nottingham,Cumbria,Derby (as someone has already mentioned),Humberside, and at the end of the 80’s,an absolutely storming package for BBC Radio York which had Dallas Vocals – I purposely used to listen it just for the jingles!
Radio Sheffield’s 1981 Package was by Sue Manning – this just under a year after Hallam replaced their EMISON stuff with..guess who? As well as this, the Radio York launch package was by Tanner (replaced by JAM),and Radio Merseyside had a JAM package done as well.
I’d love to get my hands on a clean version of the Radio Sheffield and Merseyside stuff – that’s if they’ve not chucked the masters away…which is normally the case 🙄
May 23, 2006 at 2:21 pm #20981InfernoThanks guys for the info. Another classic package has come to mind. BBC Radio Bedfordshire 1985 was a really well made and sung package but havent got a clue who made them :
BBC Radio Shropshire 1985 was composed by a local musician but i dont know this name?
BBC Radio Nottingham,as far i can remeber, didnt use any jingles in around 1984 but they a package around 85(dont know who made them either) and then David Arnlod made id’s in 87.May 23, 2006 at 2:42 pm #20982BigdaveI feel a BBC local radio montage coming on….
Nurse, fetch me the jingle laptop and Adobe Audition…

I have one of the jingles for Diane Kemp on one of my montages found in the download forum I think ….
When I’ve moved and got my new house and my new PC (late summer) I will finally be able to copy everything I have in boxes onto the PC
May 23, 2006 at 4:00 pm #20987NickySMemberI’m actually not sure who did that Bristol stuff.
But I can help out with the Radio Bedfordshire package – it was by Jan Leary Productions – who also actually did a package for BBC Radio Bristol and Somerset Sound and one of the BBC Radio Devon packages.May 24, 2006 at 7:19 am #20994Infernoah-media” wrote:

The guy was also on the test transmissions wishing Radio Shropshire all the best, etc. Nice jingles although the 1987 follow up wasn’t as good.
So Jan Leary Prod. made Radio Bedfordshire! Thanks for that. You have got to hand it to the women composers. Cath Baxter, Sue Manning, Jan Leary, theyve all done well and made some great jingles.

Thanks for that Big Dave! Nice to hear the Radio Sheffield jingle too. I remember they had a weird traffic jingle at that time. Cant imagine that being resung these days but that was the quirkeyness of some BBC local jingles and i think thats nice.
