Radio Aire 2006 is now on-air with the cuts online at http://www.wisebuddah.com

We will have to wait a week or so to hear the breakfast show cuts on air as Simon Logan is off this week. Like the second one best – sounds very much based on some of the earlier WB breakfast cuts.
Had kind of hoped that they might have some sung “80s, 90s and now” cuts but that’s maybe hoping a bit much for a station that must hold the record for the most strapline / name changes in 25 years!
Thanks for posting the direct links, Mark.

I like them. I agree with you Martin that the 2nd breakfast show cut is excellent.
I think the travel bed is a bit light and fluffy.. but still sounds excellent !

March 13, 2006 at 11:00 pm #25713mbMemberI’m going to start by saying that Wise Buddah of late have produced some great stuff with memorable logos. However I’m really disappointed by the new Radio Aire stuff – take off the vocals and they are pretty run of the mill, lackluster beds without the punch and memorability of the Reelworld Hallam or Key packages, Music 4 Radio City or the TM 107 the Bee stuff. I think they are a bit like lemming jingles they just start and then fall off with no oomph at the end just trail off like they decided to stop and stick some unenthuastic sing of the station name at the end. The best I can think to say is that they are understated. I’m surprised as a lot of jingles recently have gone back to having a punchy logo.
I’ve played them and really can’t remember them.
Do they make me feel good about the station, are they uplifting no! They arrive and go without leaving a taste. Radio Aire has been pretty lackluster for nearly a decade and I can’t see this imaging lifting the station. Radio Aire has had some pretty good packages over the years including one of the best UK packages ever from Standard Sound and the great JAM The Beat Resings.
These just don’t float my boat.March 13, 2006 at 11:00 pm #27207mbMemberI’m going to start by saying that Wise Buddah of late have produced some great stuff with memorable logos. I played them to a non jingle expert (but musically qualified person) this evening who instantly commented that they don’t have a strong memorable melodic pattern (presumably meaning sonic logo) like the new Key103 jingles.
I agree with a lot of what you are saying above mb. I would like to think that the ordinary cuts ( 1 – 8 ) come in several alternate mixes of each basic, ramp and shotgun versions and that the demo is just using a mix of the first two.
However, I think Radio Aire have done good to go with one of the newer up and coming UK companies. Perhaps they don’t have the same money to spend on Imaging that Key103 and Hallam FM have? I honestly don’t how these things work, not being on the inside. I’m also guessing, as a non radio expert, that Radio Aire is aiming to be ever so slightly more AC than Hallam FM and Key103, given that it uses a similar strapline (80s, 90s and Now) to one of Key103’s regional market competitors.
I’m sure they will sound good along side the abundance of excellent sounding Loiner voiced sweepers. Just a shame about the ‘posh’ female ‘regular’ voiceover – don’t think that sounds quite right.
I agree that the Dallas packages of the early 1990s sounded good (JAM Kiss 90 in 1990, JAM The Beat in 1992 and TM composite in 94) in my mind one of their most memorable packages was the 1996 “Only The Best Music” package by Mezzo Forte (at the time when they were called ‘The New 96.3 Aire FM’. I still remember those cuts clearly now, although my relationship with Leeds and thus love for it’s commercial radio station was somewhat better back then!

March 14, 2006 at 12:15 am #25715mbMemberI did tip Wise Buddah as one to watch in 2006 and have been quite vocal in previous support so its not a case of “oh you’re just a JAM fan stuck in the 80’s” but the Aire stuff nahhh not keen.

March 14, 2006 at 7:39 am #25716robertpobjoyHi,
I have to agree – I have been impressed with Wise Buddah recently (so much so that I’m thinking about ordering a few cuts!) – but the new cuts just sound like a slight variation of all the others offered.
I would expect something quite different from Wise Buddah each time which they I feel like, and am rather surprised they did not deliver. 😯
I do like the Breakfast Cut no 2 though!

March 14, 2006 at 9:20 pm #25717BigdaveI’m surprised with Stuart Baldwin @ Aire passing such a package, when you consider that they’ve used such strong imaging packages from Reelworld like Kiss 108 ’03
As Martin’s mentioned and so has Michael,I would have expected a package with balls, like some of the imaging for Capital and Hallam Breakfast, which in my opinion are punchy and sound great on air….

March 14, 2006 at 9:57 pm #25719FashionFunkAnyone else seem to think its like the Wave 105 Package from Music 4?
The logo on the travel and the news sounds very much like the one for Wave 105 on the Music 4 Web Site.
