That R1news jingle is my absolute favourite. Reminds me of summer holidays in Cornwall which seemed to be the only time my father would allow the car radio to be altered from R4! I also think it’s the best of the bunch in any event. Thanks for posting
June 10, 2012 at 3:28 pm #84620GrahamCollinsJust for fun, here are all the Radio 1 news ins from 1967 to 2007…… after this year I got bored and stopped bothering to collect them as they ALL sounded the same !
June 10, 2012 at 4:23 pm #84623IainJohnstonMemberChalks – plus the variants/mixes etc “never aired”…

Definitively: there was never a better news jingle than this. Thanks for posting, Mr B (and for all the other audio).June 10, 2012 at 5:57 pm #84628BarrasNice one Chalks, I was just gonna post the 1980 version, here it is anyway, in-the-clear…
June 10, 2012 at 6:08 pm #84630ratnobMemberLove it (though I love the 1976 original most)
June 10, 2012 at 6:26 pm #84631BarrasI know what you mean ratnob and what about the keyboard work on each jingle, presume that`s Jon Wolfert on the (Dr Robert) Moog …
June 10, 2012 at 6:41 pm #84632SeanMartinIt was the 1976 version that was delivered with just about every conceivable variation of mixouts, with and without vocals.
I do know of one resing, just in case you haven’t heard it before

June 11, 2012 at 11:22 am #84637UKJinglesMemberDid Great Yorkshire Gold have the News Jingle customised back in 1996 when they had all those re-sings from the 1976 Package?
June 11, 2012 at 1:30 pm #84641BarrasPete, just had a listen to the Great Yorkshire Gold resings and cannot find the news-jingle, not sure if one was recorded or not, however, I have found the traffic jingle resung for Great Yorkshire Gold, this traffic cut must be a Radio 1 custom jingle too ?
June 11, 2012 at 2:01 pm #84642UKJinglesMemberAhh that was good David!
And of course the re-sing of the Radio One Weather Jingle!
Now this is the sort of stuff “Gold” stations should be buying……Jingles that their Listeners remember just as well as the songs!!June 11, 2012 at 2:44 pm #84648BarrasCheers Pete, I recall from years ago, Sean Martin saying the Radio 1 weather cut from 1976 was not a custom, therefore, we presume the “news” and “traffic” cuts are “custom”…
Sean posted the original commercial jingle (Radio 1 weather cut) for “Bottoms Up” …
Here`s the “bottom” of the jingle !
June 11, 2012 at 3:07 pm #84652UKJinglesMemberWow…..another fascinating fact…Thanks for posting that David, I never knew that!!
June 11, 2012 at 3:07 pm #84653IainJohnstonMemberI must admit I’ve never heard the R1 News cut redone for any other UK (or even IOM/Channel Islands) stations either, despite the GYG stuff etc.
Perhaps Jon has it as a “restricted” item (think of the Chiltern Network custom material)?
Then again, anyone thinking of a forth-coming JAM Personal cut could have a go at “something completely different”…
June 12, 2012 at 4:53 pm #84679SeanMartinHere’s something that I produced back in 2006 with Johnny Beerling, former Controller of BBC Radio 1.
It’s an alternate, previously unreleased version of the one that made it to the CD and features some rare Radio 1 jingles, including Live Aid

Bates in the states advert by ian.arnoldJune 16, 2012 at 7:59 am #84790IanMemberAuthorI think this is from 1982. Mike Read had a little spell of over sleeping for his breakfast show. Who filled in while they waited for him to arrive?
None other than Andrew Turner, the news reader.
Andrew Turner filling in for Mike Read by ian.arnoldJune 16, 2012 at 8:13 am #84791IanMemberAuthorNeale James covering on the top 40 one Sunday. I didn’t realise that he ever had until I found this clip.
Neale James top 40 start by ian.arnoldJune 16, 2012 at 8:16 am #84792IanMemberAuthorOn the subject of Neale James, here is a clip using his “wake up” jingle. While I have a clean copy of the Jackie Brambles version, a good quality version of the Gary King, Simon Mayo, Neale James and Jenny Costello versions have always eluded me.
If anyone could oblige I would be very grateful.
Neale James wake up jingle by ian.arnoldJune 16, 2012 at 3:14 pm #84802IanMemberAuthorAs stated at the start of this thread, my pc crashed a while back and I am slowly recovering the files 1 by 1.
For some strange reason, I seem to have completely lost all of the John Wells voiceover cuts.
I know its a big ask but would someone be prepared to upload or send me any of these please?June 16, 2012 at 5:00 pm #84806gameswizardMemberI’ve just been copying the Radio 1 JAM CDs (dubs), purchased from Steve England many years ago, to my computer and put together a selection of the jingles from the 1984 package.
Here’s a montage

I did upload John Wells R1 montages in Barras Montages years ago – I don`t think this montage is one of mine though…
