I guess that having sung 27 DJ names, some fictitious, another incomprehensible one wouldn’t hurt !
March 1, 2014 at 10:41 pm #93557RobinBlamiresHas me laughing that the above audio aired almost directly after the far superior Kenny Everett on BBC Radio 2. Reminds me of the Mike Smith “I wish I was Noel Edmonds!” joke on the B*****rd Brothers Xmas tape.
March 3, 2014 at 4:41 am #93571Mark_PaxtonMemberI’d love to see the lyric sheet for that ident )
I can tell you what it was called though – Mumble Mouth!
March 3, 2014 at 1:40 pm #93582Jim DonahueThanks for that Mark – at least I know what to name the file!
March 17, 2014 at 9:32 pm #93757IanMemberAuthorI know this has been discussed on JM before but here is a clip of the top 30 album chart jingles from around 1990. Were these cuts part of the 1990 package or top ups?
And where the bloody hell do you find a copy of this holy grail? and The American chart show version?
March 17, 2014 at 10:23 pm #93758IanMemberAuthorAnd here is the American chart countdown version.

Befriend someone who works at the BBC and buy them a lot of lunches !
March 19, 2014 at 8:27 am #93779IanMemberAuthorThat’s fine Graham if you know someone at the BBC lol.
March 19, 2014 at 9:58 am #93780IainJohnstonIan, there ARE MP3 odd dubs “out there” of the 2 non-Top 40 Countdowns above, although under exceedingly tight embargo, and the ones of them I’ve heard are the “edited BBC in-house versions” which string the beds together to the “intro” vocal parts to form the long “talk-over” versions that you’ve got as airchecks.
I would think that the actual original sings & mixouts as actually supplied by JAM are certainly very unlikely to “leak out” in any form or quality.
The “ordinary” UK Top 40 Countdown “elements” though are on the Radio One 1990 CD as at one time sold (very dodgily) by Steve England. Have an original one of those here.
March 19, 2014 at 11:31 am #93783gameswizardMemberIain – why dodgily for the 1990 CD?
First from Alfasound came the BBC Radio 1 & 2 Collection cassettes. Then followed the BBC Radio 1 CDs (one with bonus BBC Radio 2 content).
I know the supplied CDs were CD-Rs, but was it not all above board?
March 19, 2014 at 4:41 pm #93786WelshjinglerOne thing I do know for sure, when I asked JW a few years back for a personal cut of that jingle, it wasn’t available for the service.
Although whether that’s changed now……?
March 20, 2014 at 6:05 am #93790IanMemberAuthorThanks Iain. I knew it was difficult to get hold of but didn’t realise how difficult. Any idea why as almost all other cuts are fairly easy to come by if you know where to look? And Welshjinglers comments about not available as a personal cut just add to the mystery.
March 20, 2014 at 11:00 pm #93798GrahamCollinsI prefer the Top 30 Album Chart without Gary Davis !
March 21, 2014 at 3:47 pm #93801IanMemberAuthorThanks for sharing Graham. The hunt will continue on my part.

I wonder who the 5 “My favourite” voices are… professional voice over artists?
March 22, 2014 at 5:11 pm #93808DuncanIt sounds like they were recorded over the phone. When Lincs FM needed some voices (for its opening montage), they used family and friends of the staff… and I seem to remember The Pulse doing something similar- “Hi I’m Wendy, I use to listen to Radio 1 but now I’ve got my finger on the Pulse!”
March 22, 2014 at 5:35 pm #93809IanMemberAuthorDuncan. You’re a BBC chap. Can’t you get your hands on these chart cuts? lol

As Duncan said, pretty much anyone who’s available. Producers hearing punters on the air and thinking “they’d be good for a jingle”. Perhaps some of the Egton Radio 1 girls on an internal phone or maybe Head of Pres liked the Scottish accent of the guy serving behind the counter in the BBC canteen and asked if he’d like to appear on national radio..When I was a jock I’d be constantly recording callers off air for “bits”.
Re the 1990 package, would anyone happen to know who the vocal group is?

I know that the original JAM R1 master reels were digitally archived, I’ve heard (but don’t own) some of them and they sound perfect. The archive team work on the floor above me (they’ve got every copy of the Radio Times on display!) so I’ll ask the question on Monday. Don’t get too excited though
April 24, 2014 at 11:34 pm #94117DuncanNewmarchMemberI’ve mentioned it before and have just found a recording from an old C90. A rock version (instrumental) of the KZZP logo from 1987. I’m pretty sure JAM didn’t do it so does anyone know who did? I like it anyway
Radio 1-in the style of KZZP- heavy metail by duncannewmarchMay 7, 2014 at 1:38 pm #94280Jim DonahueThere is a jingle which goes “Today’s the day Radio One remembers”. I’m not at home so can’t post the audio. Does anyone remember where this was used? I don’t recall ever hearing it on air.
May 7, 2014 at 6:19 pm #94290goonernn7Steve Wright certainly played it a few times including on those glorious bank holiday afternoons in stereo
June 7, 2014 at 6:49 pm #94724Jim DonahueI was in the mood for making a montage – here goes….
June 8, 2014 at 4:55 pm #94732Jim DonahueBy the way, the John Peel name check is in there for a reason – does anyone recall him ever actually using it on air?
