Thanks @ aircheckdownloads.com for the audio.
At a little over 1h25m, that was a great listen.
I loved hearing the Radio 1 1976 jingle getting constructed.
And I remember hearing the “One One One” song twice on air on Radio 1s 21st Birthday in 1988 – once at start-up, and once during the afternoon.

Aircheckdownloads: Thanks for grabbing the audio. I enjoyed it enormously :) It’s inspired me to think about ordering another personal cut, even though I’ve already spent all of this year’s jingle budget!

Steph has put the link up as a download via Soundcloud now, plus following a chat with Jon W yesterday, there may be a possibility of it being linked on the JAM website.

If you’ve not heard it yet, its full of great surprises – particularly the story of why Jon was originally in the UK in 1975 prior to meeting Johnny Beerling for the first time..

Sorry I did not comment earlier on this here but it was all over Facebook where I did, and I’ve only just seen this.

Steph did a SUPERB job making a permanent record of a key part of UK/USA radio history.

I also wanted to add what a great programme this was thanks again

One thing I never understood was how come the Radio One was allowed to purchase Jingles from JAM

But the MU forbid this from the ILR stations and why did the MU have so much power over what the ILR could do or not do ?

Hopefully Len or someone who was involved can explain

I have no concrete information about this Martin except that the BBC have of course spent a lot of their (legally enforced) licence fee on orchestras and live musicians for decades, and so were in favour with the MU. They did of course use some UK produced jingles – the (heavily phased) “RaydeooWunonthaRoowwdd”, maybe that ‘balanced it with the MU?

In contrast ‘strapped for cash’ ILR had little or no budget in the 70s, and in any case the IBA and the MU had ‘sewn-up’ the deal between them even before ILR launched. The MU deal (importantly) also meant the singers had to be paid TWICE if they ‘stacked’ their vocals, so many packages had just 3 or 4 singers, all done in one layer. And if you listen to early ILR jingles from the 70s they were basically a theme (only used a couple of times a day) and small ‘songs’. No one in the UK knew HOW to write functional jingles – they were not designed to transition or blend with the records, or worse still did not even SING the station name…

“The sound way to spend your dayyyy”

Looking back to my days at Metro and Piccadilly it’s amazing these stations survived the rigorous financial and quality controls imposed on them. We only had 50% “needle-time” again a deal the IBA set-up, (of course everyone cheated) And the technical standards for the studios were ridiculous. At Metro a huge double-height recording studio and booth was left unfinished for the 22 months I was there – they eventually used to to (try to) record their own jingles – they did not last long!

The IBA took over a year to ‘notice’ we were using PAMS jingles at Metro as they clearly did not monitor us after all the fuss over technical standards. Sadly, the station gave in to the demands.

The ILR story might have been very different; all those incredible JAM jingles could have gone in ILR’s direction…

This Subject has been bought up time and time again the last time there was at least 20 plus people that would pay for studio time to cover Jon cost , I just don’t think it will ever happen Jon is such a busy man , I don’t think he would ever be able to spare the time to make this happen

It’s not just about Jon’s time. I think he is simply not convinced that it is the right thing to do. ‘Selling the family silver’ was how I put it last time and this seemed to strike a chord.

Those were the lines along which I was thinking when I wrote ‘full official package’. To be fair to Jon, it would take a lot of time to collate and prepare, and he says that in the interview. But I also see Graham’s point. Still, we can dream…

Hi Jon , the link you gave has been removed but I am assuming that it contained JAM jingles posted without permission

I should point out the people that are asking for the Radio 1 Jingles are all genuine collectors who respect copywright and would always respect any conditions of sale

To give you an example myself Nicky Schiller Iain Johnston all purchased several of the master. Alpha sound tapes this was over 10 years ago , we have all respected the conditions of sale and you have never seen any of the tracks in the clear on you tube , Facebook or any social media sites

So I hope one day you will reconsider even if you offer on a limited release to genuine collectors

Jon’s link is not the only F/b one from the past day or so that is giving the same message (e.g. restricted viewing/group), so there may be another reason
e.g. F/b messing about with their Ts and Cs…

To support Martin’s comment about the Alfa ref reels, without divulging any names but they would be instantly recognised as
well-known, respected, and utterly trusted members the UK Jingle Collectors community (and regular contributors on JM),
I can confirm that we’ve respected the conditions of how we purchased them and amongst us we even added a few mutual
conditions of our own to “protect” the Copyright Owner’s interests, even if those may today be more vague with the passage
                                                      of time since Alfa folded.

If anything from those ever “leaks” out into so-called social media, it won’t have been from those actual reels – these are
prized Collectors Items and I’m only too happy to have my 10″ NABs – even if I can no longer actually play ’em!
(Mr E of course transcribed them to CD as part of the arrangement).

“So I hope one day you will reconsider even if you offer on a LIMITED RELEASE TO GENUINE COLLECTORS”

To that I’d suggest that a form of Pre-Registering – I think Jon you must have all or at least many of the appropriate
“names” on file, as many of us have purchased JAM Personal Cuts so our bona fides are on your database.
